This paper depicts the research the authors have done at Memorial University of Newfoundland with secondary English education students to investigate how technology can be integrated into the classroom practices of secondary English teachers in ways compatible with critical theory. The authors describe their efforts to challenge the trend in new Canadian curricula to technologise literacy. Opportunities for authoritative textual resistance and creative knowledge construction using hypermedia are foregrounded over technological competencies and the commercial implications of the Internet.  相似文献

Treating suicidal clients with borderline traits can be conducive to burnout. Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may assuage this burnout in counselors. As part of a DBT treatment outcome study, 6 counselors in training collected their own salivary cortisol samples and completed self‐report measures of burnout and well‐being for 1 year. Findings indicate a significant interaction for cortisol levels by treatment condition, such that DBT counselors experienced less physiological stress over time relative to a control group of counselors. There were no group differences in self‐reported burnout or well‐being. DBT may have a salutary effect on trainees' physiological stress levels over time.  相似文献

From time to time, studies of links between youngsters’ television viewing habits and their social behaviour suggest pointers which may help identify those prone to ill‐effects from exposure to television programming.

This article refers to some of this research, before linking these pointers to the viewing habits of exceptional children (especially those with significant difficulties in their social and emotional behaviour). The article then makes cursory reference to initiatives designed to help safeguard young viewers from deleterious effects of television‐viewing.  相似文献

Question:

Can the niche services of individual librarians across multiple libraries be developed into a suite of standard services available to all scientists that support the entire research lifecycle?

Setting:

Services at a large, research-intensive state university campus are described.

Method:

Initial data were collected via concept mapping by librarians. Additional data were collected at conferences and meetings through interactive poster presentations.

Main Results:

Services of interest to scientists for each of the stages in the research lifecycle were developed by the team to reflect the wide range of strengths of team members in aggregate.

Conclusion:

Input from researchers was the most effective tool for developing the model. A flexible research lifecycle model can be developed to match the needs of different service groups and the skills of different librarians.  相似文献

THE IMAGE of resource teachers, as perceived by a representative sample of 600 administrators and teachers in Queensland secondary schools and TAFE colleges, was measured using a semantic differential instrument. Results show that resource teachers as a group enjoy a strongly positive image, and that a significantly more positive image of resource teachers is held by those who use their services than by those who do not. Few significant differences of perceived image were found between administrators and teachers, and teachers of different subject areas while none was found between male and female respondents, and less and more experienced teachers. Ways are suggested in which resource teachers can extend their influence with administrators and teachers.  相似文献
