The aim of this study was to objectively quantify ratings of perceived enjoyment using the Physical Activity Enjoyment Scale following high-intensity interval running versus moderate-intensity continuous running. Eight recreationally active men performed two running protocols consisting of high-intensity interval running (6 × 3 min at 90% VO(2max) interspersed with 6 × 3 min active recovery at 50% VO(2max) with a 7-min warm-up and cool down at 70% VO(2max)) or 50 min moderate-intensity continuous running at 70% VO(2max). Ratings of perceived enjoyment after exercise were higher (P < 0.05) following interval running compared with continuous running (88 ± 6 vs. 61 ± 12) despite higher (P < 0.05) ratings of perceived exertion (14 ± 1 vs. 13 ± 1). There was no difference (P < 0.05) in average heart rate (88 ± 3 vs. 87 ± 3% maximum heart rate), average VO(2) (71 ± 6 vs. 73 ± 4%VO(2max)), total VO(2) (162 ± 16 vs. 166 ± 27 L) or energy expenditure (811 ± 83 vs. 832 ± 136 kcal) between protocols. The greater enjoyment associated with high-intensity interval running may be relevant for improving exercise adherence, since running is a low-cost exercise intervention requiring no exercise equipment and similar relative exercise intensities have previously induced health benefits in patient populations. 相似文献

In this paper, the scientific literature and that on the sports sciences relevant to javelin throwing is critically reviewed. This is particularly timely because of the change in the specification of the javelin for the men's event, which was introduced by the IAAF in 1986. A full discussion of the aerodynamics of the javelin is presented with due consideration of the change in pitching moment characteristics that the rules change had brought about. The uses and limitations of current computer programs for simulating javelin flight, in order to estimate optimal release parameters, are profiled. Consideration is also given to the effects of wind velocity, air density, javelin weight and the flutter and spin of the javelin on its flight. The review further considers the optimization of release parameters, drawing upon computer simulations and field-based data. The effects of release speed, release height, release angle, release angle of attack and release pitch rate are assessed. The javelin throwing technique is discussed in relation to cinematographically derived data, including an evaluation of experimental procedures. The importance to successful performance of the grip, the run-up and transition phases, the cross over and delivery strides are each reviewed. Finally, some prognoses as to the direction of future research into this complex throwing skill are offered. 相似文献

In 1981 it looked as though there could be collaboration between Deakin University and the University of Queensland in the co‐development of courses leading to a Master of Education degree to be offered externally and by course work. It was hoped that there would be joint development of three courses—about half of the minimal degree program. In the event, only one of the three courses was produced by intensive co‐development. The present study is an investigation of factors involved in the collaboration, and consequently of issues involved in any such enterprise. It is concluded that a collaborative venture is likely to succeed if it is based on a collegiate network, or on a good working relationship between academics who share research and teaching interests. It is also suggested that such collaboration can best be fostered by establishing a climate within and between institutions in which particular collaborative initiatives can be initiated and sustained. Finally, it is suggested that collaborative co‐development and co‐production and parallel provision of courses may offer a way out of the dilemma of collaboration for excellence in teaching versus institutional self‐interest. 相似文献

Separate groups of food- and water-deprived rats pressed a lever for food or water, respectively, on continuous reinforcement and various fixed-ratio and fixed-interval reinforcement schedules. Food-reinforced rats on continuous, FR 2-, or FI 10-sec schedules showed consistently longer mean lever contact durations per leverpress than did water-reinforced rats on the same schedules. Mean lever-contact-duration differences between food- and water-reinforced rats were greatly attenuated or disappeared under FR 4-, FR 8-, FI 20-sec, and FI 30-sec schedules of reinforcement. These results are interpreted as supporting earlier hypotheses that there are respondent components of operantly conditioned and autoshaped leverpresses, but that these respondent components weaken with partial reinforcement and the leverpress topography comes under the control of operant contingencies. 相似文献

Implementing a program of supplemental instruction (SI) in the present climate of transition in South Africa requires attention
to involving students in planning and conducting the new program. Involved in this process are political opportunities and
constraints. This paper recounts the steps (and missteps) taken in beginning an SI program in high risk courses in two academic
departments at Border Technikon: Accounting and Management. It documents the steps taken to enlist support of the Student
Representative Council (SRC) in setting policy, selecting tutors, and maintaining the program's funding base.
We maintain that a successful SI program must draw upon the energies of tertiary level students, both in roles as learners
in the high risk courses and as student leaders at an advanced level. Some students may experience both roles. For this process
to be more than an imposition from the outside, the program must be a partnership with faculty and students sharing a stake
in the outcomes. Both groups must see that they benefit from the smooth working of the SI system. Our results to date indicate
that such a joint ownership is occurring.

The present article takes up a paradox: that teachers' involvement in ambitious innovation or large-scale reform may supply rich opportunities for professional growth while also introducing the seeds of longer-term career disappointment. Case study investigations of reforming high schools in the US from 1991 to 2001 illuminate the relationship of teachers' participation in secondary school reform to their teaching commitment and career trajectories. Two of the three successive studies produced a dominant pattern of initial enthusiasm followed by growing disappointment. We draw on the combined data to examine teachers' propensity to remain engaged with innovation or reform, and the ways in which sustained involvement strengthens or weakens teachers' career commitment and satisfaction. 相似文献

Following World War II, North Carolina created public junior colleges and industrial education centers to meet the educational demands of veterans and expand the technical skills of the state's workforce. Despite the creation of these campuses, in the early 1960s North Carolina ranked 47th in the number of citizens in college, and 66 counties in state possessed no campus to serve the local area. A system of comprehensive community colleges created in 1963 to extend education in the state comprised 56 campuses that enrolled 387,000 students by 1972. Few of the leaders or upper administration of the rapidly expanding community college system possessed doctoral education. Created in 1966 to alleviate this problem, the Community College Internship Program was designed to provide an intensive two-year doctoral training for personnel from the community college system. The program played an instrumental role in the early development of the state's community colleges and the professionalization of its leadership. 相似文献

This paper overviews the diverse information technologies that are used to provide athletes with relevant feedback. Examples taken from various sports are used to illustrate selected applications of technology-based feedback. Several feedback systems are discussed, including vision, audition and proprioception. Each technology described here is based on the assumption that feedback would eventually enhance skill acquisition and sport performance and, as such, its usefulness to athletes and coaches in training is critically evaluated. 相似文献
