A transpersonal model for teacher reflectivity

The past decade has witnessed a dramatic increase in scholarship relating to teacher reflectivity. Typically, 'reflectivity', in this context, refers to teachers' critical examination of the political and biographical factors that have led them to teaching and have been instrumental in defining their internal models of what defines good practice. However, the literature on reflective teacher education rarely delves into what may be called 'spiritual reflectivity' - or the exploration of deeper ontological commitments and constructs regarding teaching. In this essay, I discuss how, as a teacher educator, I have drawn from a Buddhist developmental model to deepen my spiritual reflectivity as a teacher.     

Crossing the Line

The paper charts the progress of the ‘Window Sills’ project in Exeter, UK which brings together artists, art students, cultural organisations, and the community in a plan for urban renewal. Seeking to loosen boundaries, it uses the idea of ‘thirdspace’ to question the notion of public and private space, using the city's and its river's constant changes as an analogy. The window and the window sill become the interface where the project seeks a transformational act in the lives of those involved by locating the experience in the local and the personal, although the implications cross much wider boundaries.     

Social media listening and Title IX training crisis: Implications for discourse of renewal

Courses: Undergraduate or graduate organizational/crisis communication or public relations courses

Objective: The goal for this single class activity is for students to apply discourse of renewal to an organizational crisis fueled through social media.     

Text mining in business libraries

This article considers the increase in business research that involves text-mining techniques. The authors provide a brief survey of possible text-mining applications in business school research, the steps and life cycle of text-mining projects, and a text-mining case study from Vanderbilt University Library and the Owen Graduate School of Management. The authors give suggestions on how libraries and librarians can increase skills and services to partner with researchers and support this form of research.
