This article describes the results of a survey of library patrons conducted by librarians and information technology specialists at the Health Science Center Libraries at the University of Florida. In this study, Spanish mothers and fathers (N = 108) estimated their own general and multiple intelligences, as well as those of their children and of their own parents. The mothers' self-estimates of their verbal, logical–mathematical, spatial, and corporal intelligence were lower than the fathers'. The mothers made lower estimates of their daughters' spatial intelligence than of their sons'. Both parents made lower estimates of the verbal, logical–mathematical, and spatial intelligence of the grandmothers than of the grandfathers. Children and parents were both more intelligent than the grandparents. The results are in line with the research of many other studies that confirm the gender effect and the generational effect.  相似文献

Recent Canadian university student misbehaviour (rape chants, harassment, sexual assault, and anti-social media posts) has garnered much attention in the media and from university administrations. Most research concerned to address these issues focuses on sexual attitudes, gender, and party culture. In this study, we analyse student interviews from a narrative perspective and find that students use storytelling devices to construct a gendered, but also class-based, division of self into two parts: university life that ‘does not count’ and post-university life that ‘counts’ in terms of choices and actions. We called this construction a ‘meaningful meaninglessness’. We conclude with a consideration of the meaning of the university in general and how current trends in education may contribute to student alienation.  相似文献

Genetic algorithms (GAs) employ the evolutionary process of Darwin's nature selection theory to find the solutions of optimization problems. In this paper, an implementation of genetic algorithm is put forward to solve a classical transportation problem, namely the Hitchcock's Transportation Problem (HTP), and the GA is improved to search for all optimal solutions and identify them automatically. The algorithm is coded with C and validated by numerical examples. The computational results show that the algorithm is efficient for solving the Hitchcock's transportation problem.  相似文献

People in industrialized countries may be losing their connection with nature. The Get to Know Program (Get to Know) is a multi-faceted program aimed at encouraging direct connection with nature through a variety of activities (observations of wildlife, hiking, creative arts, and special events), specifically among youth. Three studies assessed the effects of three Get to Know program activities on youth’s implicit connectedness with nature (measured using a computer based game). Participants were youth recruited from southern California schools or youth organizations. Participation in the Get to Know Program’s Creative Arts Contest was associated with increased implicit connectedness with nature. However, participation in the Get to Know Natural Treasure Adventure and Virtual Hike did not have an effect on connectedness with nature. Implications of these findings are important for agencies seeking to find effective tools for outreach focused on connecting participants with nature.  相似文献
