The purpose of this study was to gain a holistic understanding of the efficacy of Zumba® fitness in a community-recruited cohort of overweight and physically inactive women by evaluating (i) its physiological effects on cardiovascular risk factors and inflammatory biomarkers and (ii) its mental health-enhancing effects on factors of health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Participants were randomly assigned to either engagement in one to two 1 h classes of Zumba® fitness weekly (intervention group; n = 10) or maintenance of habitual activity (control group; n = 10). Laboratory assessments were conducted pre- (week 0) and post-intervention (week 8) with anthropometric, physiological, inflammatory and HRQoL data collected. In the intervention group, maximal oxygen uptake significantly increased (P < 0.05; partial η2 = 0.56) by 3.1 mL · kg?1 · min?1, per cent body fat significantly decreased (P < 0.05; partial η2 = 0.42) by –1.2%, and interleukin-6 and white blood cell (WBC) count both significantly decreased (P < 0.01) by –0.4 pg · mL?1 (partial η2 = 0.96) and –2.1 × 109 cells · L?1 (partial η2 = 0.87), respectively. Large magnitude enhancements were observed in the HRQoL factors of physical functioning, general health, energy/fatigue and emotional well-being. When interpreted in a community-based physical activity and psychosocial health promotion context, our data suggest that Zumba® fitness is indeed an efficacious health-enhancing activity for adults. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThe optimal scheduling of Nordic Hamstring exercises (NHEs) relative to football training sessions is unknown. We examined the acute neuromuscular and performance responses to NHE undertaken either before (BT) or after (AT) simulated football training. Twelve amateur players performed six sets of five repetitions of the NHE either before or after 60 min of standardised football-specific exercise (SAFT60). Surface electromyography signals (EMG) of the hamstring muscles were recorded during both the NHE, and maximum eccentric actions of the knee flexors (0.52 rad · s–1) performed before and after the NHE programme, and at 15 min intervals during SAFT60. Ten-metre sprint times were recorded on three occasions during each 15 min SAFT60 segment. Greater eccentric hamstring fatigue following the NHE programme was observed in BT versus AT (19.8 %; very likely small effect), which was particularly apparent in the latter range of knee flexion (0–15°; 39.6%; likely moderate effect), and synonymous with hamstring EMG declines (likely small–likely moderate effects). Performing NHE BT attenuated sprint performance declines (2.0–3.2%; likely small effects), but decreased eccentric hamstring peak torque (–14.1 to –18.9%; likely small effects) during football-specific exercise. Research repeatedly documents that teachers are underprepared to teach mathematics effectively in diverse classrooms. A critical
aspect of learning to be an effective mathematics teacher for diverse learners is developing knowledge, dispositions, and
practices that support building on children’s mathematical thinking, as well as their cultural, linguistic, and community-based
knowledge. This article presents a conjectured learning trajectory for prospective teachers’ (PSTs’) development related to
integrating children’s multiple mathematical knowledge bases (i.e., the understandings and experiences that have the potential to shape and support children’s mathematics learning—including
children’s mathematical thinking, and children’s cultural, home, and community-based knowledge), in mathematics instruction.
Data were collected from 200 PSTs enrolled in mathematics methods courses at six United States universities. Data sources
included beginning and end-of-semester surveys, interviews, and PSTs’ written work. Our conjectured learning trajectory can
serve as a tool for mathematics teacher educators and researchers as they focus on PSTs’ development of equitable mathematics

Investigation of information seeking has focused on initial organizational entry hut there is evidence information seeking strategies continue to develop throughout organizational careers. This study begins an investigation of information seeking as a day‐to‐day component of organizational life. Individual characteristics of organizational members and situational variables were investigated to determine their relationship with information seeking behavior. Respondent age was found to influence selection of information seeking strategy. The situational variables of employment classification and length of employment also significantly influenced information seeking strategy. Taken together the differences suggest that information seeking strategies change in predictable ways throughout organizational careers. 相似文献

This essay emerged from the authors’ presentation at an invited session of the 15th Annual Conference on Interdisciplinary Qualitative Studies (QUIG) at the University of Georgia, Athens, 3–5 January 2002. They presented on the conference theme, ‘Vision, Voice & Virtuality: (Re)Conceptualizing Qualitative Representation.’ Their work here encompasses their response to the conference organizers’ invitation to grapple with (re)conceptualizing qualitative representation. Their goal is to explore the (re)presentation of voices and subjectivities that are engaged in Queer processes for social change. First they question whether Queer can be adequately articulated. They then posit that emerging Queer theory and the actions it invigorates are significant, galvanizing contemporary intellectual and political forces that power social change. Blurring the lines of bounded, intact, stable and essential identity categories—such as straight, lesbian, and gay—they give examples from their qualitative research, including autoethnographic accounts that indicate that the Queer movement has shifting, multiple and overlapping sites of education and resistance. These sites textualize everyday life; contest hetero‐hegemony; resist readings that exclude or defame Queers and non‐normative identities; allow the development of oppositional practices; and make commitment to social change in an environment of hope and possibility. Finally, they explore some characteristics of Queer qualitative research, and suggest future directions for infusing theory with ‘justice to come.’ 相似文献
