This review investigates the state of teacher self- and collective efficacy research conducted from 1998 to 2009. Two hundred
and eighteen empirical articles published in 1998–2009 were examined for key characteristics and compared to research published
in the previous 12 years (i.e., 1986–1997). Results from the review show increases in overall teacher efficacy research, methodological
diversity, domain specificity, internationalization, and focus on collective efficacy. Continuing problem areas were a lack
of attention to the sources of teacher efficacy, continued measurement and conceptual problems, a lack of evidence for the
links between teacher efficacy and student outcomes, and uncertain relevance of teacher efficacy research to educational practice.
An outline of directions for future teacher efficacy research is provided. 相似文献

Drawing on their experience in a Midwest healthcare system, the authors propose a model of leadership development through action learning that embraces ‘concentric collaboration’ at its core. The present study suggests that the process of concentric collaboration can serve to strengthen the skills of the individual leader as well as foster collective leadership. Central to the model is the growth and development of the individual leader which extends outward to create connections with others, ultimately increasing the social capital necessary to effect organizational change. This work contributes to the leadership development literature by offering a comprehensive model that includes the process of individual growth as well as collective capacity, organizational factors that support or inhibit this process as well as implications for practice. 相似文献

It may be concluded that female administrators are perceived as being more adept than their male counterparts for leading innovation in schools and leveraging resources into productive outputs. It may be concluded that both genders of administrators perceive such efforts similarly. The only two skills where gender is significant are the two eornpetencies identified as being alert for new opportunities and synthesizing ideas into focused projects. A review of the literature suggests a relationship between life-long development of formal reasoning schema and performance in professional education careers. The study investigated implications of cognitive development of preservice teachers as it relates to their classroom teaching performance. Ninety-one seniors involved in a field-oriented teacher education program were given classroom responsibilities which included teaching a science unit. Formal thinking abilities were assessed using two types of developmental level tasks, performance on traditional type Piagetian tasks and recognition of formal thought approaches in solving educational tasks. Professional behaviors were assessed using observational ratings of classroom instructional and planning activities. Subjects assessed as formal operational, 30% of sample, using Piagetian performance tasks, had significantly higher facility in performing model classroom teaching behaviors than transitional or concrete subjects. Higher recognition ability of formal thought approaches to teaching was not related to facility in performing classroom teaching when compared to performance on Piagetian tasks. The relationship held up in seven of eight broad teaching behavior categories observed in classroom instruction. The results supported a general portrait of teaching behavior specifically related to teachers of differing cognitive functional levels. High turnover rates of early care and education teachers reduce the quality of education; unsatisfied teachers, suffering from stress or emotional exhaustion, are less equipped to promote children’s development and more likely to leave the classroom. We used data from a national survey of US early childhood educators (n?=?1129) to examine associations between teachers’ working conditions, well-being, and motivation with professional commitment and turnover intentions to move, leave, or remain. Multiple regression analyses revealed that more intrinsically motivated teachers were more likely to report intentions to move over leave, emotionally exhausted teachers were more likely to report intentions to leave, and lower teacher-reported working conditions predicted intentions to move or leave the field over staying. The results suggest that teachers’ well-being and perceived working conditions relate with their intentions to remain at their job or within the field and to their commitment to the profession. 相似文献

Gender Differences in Children's Normative Beliefs about Aggression: How Do I Hurt Thee? Let Me Count the Ways 总被引:3,自引:1,他引:3
This research was designed to assess whether children view relationally manipulative behaviors (i.e., those behaviors labeled relational aggression in past research) as "aggressive." 2 studies were conducted to evaluate whether children view relationally manipulative behaviors as associated with 2 defining features of aggression, anger (Study 1) and intent to harm (Study 2). Results of Study 1 ( n = 459, 9–12-year-olds) indicated that relational aggression was the most frequently cited angry behavior for girls' interactions whereas physical aggression was the most frequently cited angry behavior for boys' interactions. Results of Study 2 ( n = 60, 9–11-year-olds) demonstrated that relational aggression and verbal insults were the most frequently cited harmful behaviors for girls whereas physical aggression and verbal insults were the most frequently cited harmful behaviors for boys. These studies provide the first evidence that children view relationally manipulative acts (relational aggression) as angry, harmful behaviors (i.e., as "aggressive"). 相似文献

This paper examines the relationship between sets of quantitative performance and diversity indicators and the qualitative banding of Australian universities made by the Committee for Quality Assurance in Higher Education. Using factor analysis, three performance factors (Traditional Research University Performance, Teaching Performance and Competitive Research Performance) and four diversity factors (Size, Equity, Student Staff Ratios and Access) were obtained. Strong association was found between quality ranking and composite measures of performance. When factor‐based composite measures were used, quality rankings were significantly correlated with Traditional Research University Performance, Teaching Performance and Size, and negatively with Equity. 相似文献

Conclusion Michael Fullan, Dean of Education at the University of Toronto and an acknowledged expert on educational change, reform and
improvement, has noted that reform in special education ‘represents just about all the issues involved in bringing about educational
reform.’ complexity and leadership are particularly difficult challenges. Fullan has noted that, ‘the solutions to inclusion
are not easily achieved. It is complex both in the nature and degree of change required to identify and implement solutions
that work. Given what change requires—persistence, coordination, follow-up, conflict resolution, and the like—leadership at
all levels is required...’ (Fullan, 1991b).
Organizational support for inclusive education must be in place at the provincial/state level, the regional/school district
level, and at the school level. These structures, programmes and policies must deliver the support needed by classroom teachers
and their students. We have set out specific ways that this can be done, consistent with an inclusive policy framework. The
commitment to equity, as well as access and quality, requires continuing development by building on these approaches. In so
doing, we can achieve better results for students with special needs while simultaneously creating more effective schools
for all students.
A former teacher and school principal, Gordon Porter is now director of student services for the public schools in Woodstock,
New Brunswick. A well-known advocate for integrated education, he has been instrumental in developing inclusionary programmes
for all students in the schools in the Woodstock area, and throughout the province of New Brunswick. Dr. Porter has conducted
training in many parts of Canada as well as the United States. He is currently vice-chair of the Committee on Integrated Education
