This paper sets out to examine educational policy and practice in Scotland, showing how the ‘comprehensive and coherent programme to promote social inclusion’ – inculcating ‘readiness to learn’, ensuring that education equips the young for adult life, creating a demand for lifelong learning, above all through the presumption of mainstreaming – is indicative of and constitutive of a change in the way in which we are subject to governance in Scotland. This shift can be read as consistent with a move from a predominantly ‘disciplinary’ society as set out by Michel Foucault towards the ‘control society’ as elaborated by Gilles Deleuze – a society which does not operate through confinement but continuous control made possible by cybertechnology. Although it specifically draws on Scottish legislation and policy, it should be recognised that this is itself subject to emergent global education policy and so its relevance goes beyond these borders. 相似文献

Many instructional designers and numerous organizations have adapted the Dick and Carey model for use in their training functions. This article reviews the changes that have occurred to the model in the 20 years since its original publication, and identifies various influences that may determine whether it will continue to be useful in the years ahead. Consideration is given to alternative instructional design textbooks and the potential decline in interest in instructional design within academic programs. The influence of constructivist theory on the 1996 version of the Dick and Carey model is described, and the long term impact of constructivist and objectivist models on public education and business and industry is assessed. 相似文献

During recent years the Higher Education (HE) sector in Britain has come under government pressure to reduce the scale of its operations and change the nature of its product. Much of the justification for this change has been provided by new right economists [1] who have concluded, on economic grounds, firstly that state supply of HE should be limited to investment in human capital and secondly that additional state finance is justified only to the extent of the value of the external benefits bestowed upon society.It is the purpose of this article to review the conventional economic assessment of HE and examine the policy implications of the economists' analysis. In particular it is suggested that resource redirection within HE is difficult because of the bureaucratic properties of educational institutions. The article concludes that what is required is a methodology to evaluate quality of output and a uniform method of calculating course costs within and between institutions.We are grateful to Professor C. This research investigates what most catalogers already know—titles alone do not identify works sufficiently. Repetitive titles like “Annual Report” are just the tip of the iceberg. To explore the extent of ambiguity occurring in large sets of health science bibliographic data, the entire National Library of Medicine and Lane Medical Library catalogs and a sample from the PubMed database were analyzed. After measuring the uniqueness of titles, results were recalculated to determine the effect of appending date and/or edition. This initial evidence supports further exploration of whether such structured titles might serve as singular bibliographic identities. 相似文献
