The purpose of this study was to analyze how school psychologists engage racial/cultural diversity when conceptualizing problems during consultation in a multiracial context. Four school psychologists were recruited to engage in computer-simulated problem-solving consultation. Each school psychologist was presented with three fictional consultation cases. The participants then used a computer-simulated school environment to interact with fictional teachers in a school-based setting to complete the consultation cases. Three themes emerged: (a) limited use of ecological approach, (b) lack of cultural responsiveness, and (c) divergent approaches to problem identification for African American versus European American referrals. Implications for using problem-solving consultation in a multiracial environment are discussed.  相似文献

As the City of Houston's Bureau of Air Quality Control embraced new policies, technologies, and rhetorical strategies, they simultaneously moved through Lukensmeyer and Torres's “four levels of public involvement,” which include the information, consultation, engagement, and collaboration levels (Lukensmeyer & Torres, 2006 Lukensmeyer, C. Because of the technical and scientific nature of air quality inspections, increasing public involvement, especially the involvement of those in a predominantly African American and a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood, has been a challenge. This article describes the Bureau's journey through the information level, where the Bureau opens public access and participation in the investigation and reporting process; the consultation level, where Bureau staff go door-to-door in poor and minority neighborhoods collecting citizen feedback regarding perceived environmental hazards; the engagement level, where the Bureau conducts monthly environmental meetings with neighborhood residents; and the collaboration level, where citizens are taught to collect evidence of environmental violations.  相似文献

“Over the past few decades American research universities have implemented a large number of costly interdisciplinary research initiatives, but they have done so without the benefit of much research showing how the processes used to implement these initiatives are affecting faculty research. This study of one interdisciplinary cluster-hiring initiative shows how the ways participating faculty implemented the initiative affected its long-term outcomes. A specific casual mechanism, reflective sensegiving, characterized the work of the participating faculty and was found to affect their formation of research collaborations through the initiative. This mechanism enabled faculty to cultivate their expertise but it also delayed their formation of research collaborations with other faculty in their clusters. These findings carry theoretical implications suggesting that sensemaking and sensegiving can be willfully made to be mutually constitutive, rather than being merely parallel, iterative, or corollary processes. The practical implications of this study regard the design of interdisciplinary initiatives as well as the methods of evaluation which can be used to better demonstrate links between the implementation and impact of these initiatives.”  相似文献

The second part of this comprehensive systemic study aims to identify the required interventions to overcome the causes of faculty-performance deficiencies that were determined in the first part. The externality-tangibility (E-T) model of human performance guided the study to identify the needed interventions for faculty-performance improvement. Grounded-theory research design was used to develop the intervention model for faculty-performance improvement. The participants of the study consisted of all stakeholders of distance education: the experts (including national policy makers), administrators, faculty members (including program and school coordinators), support staff, and students. The data were collected through multiple data sources: interviews, observations, and artifact analysis and were analyzed through constant comparative analysis. The findings of the study revealed the internal and external interventions required for faculty-performance improvement according to the nine elements in the E-T model. These findings helped to propose a model of faculty performance in distance education.  相似文献

In this paper, we examine how individuals vary in their ability to control informal information during the purchasing process for an expensive complex technological product in the information technology area. As part of this research process, we use sociometric data from 41 firms to test a structural model of the effects that network heterogeneity and three organizational structure variables have on this type of information control. As hypothesized, increased network heterogeneity reduces an individual's ability to control informal information. Moreover, the structural variables of decentralization, formalization, and spatial differentiation are shown to affect informal information control in the predicted manner. Importantly, we also show that formalization and spatial differentiation affect network heterogeneity. Decentralization, however, was not found to be related to network heterogeneity.  相似文献
