The authors investigated whether students receiving short–term individual counseling at a university counseling center showed progress as evidenced by perceived client and counselor outcomes and the roles that client readiness to change and working alliance played in this setting. The results indicated that the counselor reports, not the client reports, reflected statistically significant change in client symptoms. The debate about the inclusion of laboratory practicals in the school curriculum is continued in this paper which reports on fraudulent practice by students. One of the widely accepted goals of school laboratory practicals is to teach students about the nature of scientific inquiry. This paper reports how student disclosures of their actual practice in school laboratories is at odds with such a goal. We identify and define the student practice of “fudging” which involves faking, fabricating, or stealing data. Five types of fudging behaviour are described. The factors contributing to and the motivations for such behaviour are also identified.  相似文献

Health care reform has moved postbirth care into the community without assessment of how this may change parents' needs. Mother-father pairs (n = 117) in six sites in four countries were interviewed at 5 to 10 days postbirth and again between 6 and 8 weeks postbirth to determine their needs. Content analysis revealed both parents in all sites had a strong focus on self-needs throughout the postbirth period. Postpartum programs oriented solely to family-centered care may not meet the specific needs of contemporary parents.  相似文献

Relations between marital discord, parental behavior, and child behavior were investigated in a sample of 37 battered women and 37 comparison mothers and their children, aged 2-8 years. It was hypothesized that violent fathers would be more irritable but less involved, battered women more stressed and inconsistent in discipline, and both parents would reportedly use fewer positive and more negative child-rearing responses than comparison families. Based on maternal self-reports and mother-child observations, the only robust self-report difference between the groups of mothers were the level of stress and reports of inconsistency in parenting; in contrast, all of the expected differences were found between the mothers' reports of the 2 groups of fathers. Group effects on child behavior problems were also found. Children from violent families were reported to have more internalizing behavior problems, more difficult temperaments, and to be more aggressive than the comparison children. In the violent families, maternal stress and paternal irritability were the 2 significant predictors of child behavior problems, whereas in the comparison families only maternal stress was a reliable predictor.  相似文献
