Meritocracy, that is to admit only the “best” if there is a limited number of positions, is seen as a central moment of mobility in modern societies. A key example is the high school Abitur-examination in Germany, where the average score can be used to filter applicants for over-subscribed study places in universities. Based on a quantatitive-formal argument, this article firstly deduces that the prognosis of the score of the final exam can be improved only marginally, if the average Abitur-score at entry to university is taken in consideration. Secondly it proves that the amount of “non-detected talent” is high under all possible circumstances and, therefore, that even if the selection procedures to universities were improved a lot, sobering fundamental limits would still exist. In this paper, we will develop a way of understanding attendance of courses, whichis not in the usual manner based on the institutionally marked dimension of incident, butinstead emphasizes the interactive dimension of process. From this perspective, the processesof adult education are less focused on the forms of pedagogic action or teaching-learning interaction. We rather observe the performance of participation and its shaping by the courseparticipants during the course process. In a critical reception of research on classroom management, perceivable shifts of attention will be argued to be constitutive moments in the process of attendance. On the basis of one course scene, we will show the way in which a process of participation—corporeal specified in space and time—can be empirically reconstructed as an arrangement of mutually entangled shifts of attention between the individual participants. Motor development is an important part of the holistic development of a child. Empirical evidence over the last 20 years shows a steady decrease in motor ability in primary school children. Therefore we tested six primary school classes in Augsburg with the Deutscher Motorik-Test (DMT). The aim of the study was to develop a risk factor for reduced motor performance capacity (RF-RSL) via regression analyses of endogenous and exogenous variables. Additionally we examined the influence of the RF-RSL on the development of performance in a longitudinal study. The results of the study elucidate that during the considered age the course is set for adequate motor development. If children are overweight, have a TV, a computer or a game console in their room and do not participate in any sports programme they belong to the risk group for RSL.
