The authors consider the problem of classifying an unknown observation into 1 of several populations by using tree-structured allocation rules. Although many parametric classification procedures are robust to certain assumption violations, there is need for classification procedures that can be used regardless of the group-conditional distributions that underlie the model. The authors discuss the tree-structured allocation rule. The tree rule is compared with linear discriminant and logistic regression procedures via Monte Carlo and real data analysis.  相似文献

Learning disabled, emotionally disturbed, and unclassified male students (N = 123) originally tested with the Elizur Test of Psycho-Organicity (ETPO) when they were 6 to 11 years of age by Brooks (1) and Jackson (7), were followed-up and reassessed four years later. The test-retest reliability of the total ETPO score was .70, and subtest reliabilities ranged from .47 to .62. The pattern of subtest intercorrelations also remained stable over the four year interval. It was concluded that the ETPO is sufficiently stable for use with school-aged boys, though individual subtest scores should be used with caution.  相似文献

This is the fourth Lecture of the Edward Corbin Jenkins Lectureship, given by Hedley S. Dimock, at George Williams College, Chicago, on February 28, 1941. The Lectureship was established in 1935 in honor of a pioneer in education, who served as president of George Williams College from 1926 until his retirement in 1935. The purpose of the Lectureship is to carry forward the pioneering spirit and educational philosophy of President Jenkins in recreation and informal education as a significant phase of the modern community. The preceding Lectures were given by Frederick P. Keppel, President of The Carnegie Corporation; Charles W. Gilkey, Dean of University of Chicago Chapel; and Eduard C. Lindeman, Professor of Social Philosophy of the New York School of Social Work. Abstract

Content analysis was used to determine the environmental content in a selection of national award-winning children's literature from 1960 to 1982. All but six of the seventy-two books analyzed had some type of environmental content, but with the exception of one book, the messages did not constitute themes. Many books used both social and environmental issues as backdrops to the main action of the story. Environmental messages related to human physical and emotional needs occurred more frequently those those related to animals and plants. Environmental messages occurred most frequently in stories set in rural, non-farm settings. It appears that this selection of children's fiction literature was influenced by the environmental awareness generated by Earth Day 1970, in that somewhat more environmental content was found after 1970.  相似文献
