A small-scale, longitudinal, phonological awareness training study with inner-city kindergarten children was conducted in
four classrooms. The central goals of the study were the creation and evaluation of a phonological awareness training program
and a preliminary look at the consequence of that training on basic phonological processes.
Assessment of phonological awareness and basic phonological processes was carried out in the fall of the kindergarten year,
and again in the spring following an 18 week training program which incorporated both auditory and articulatory techniques
for fostering metaphonological development. Follow-up evaluation of promotion to first grade and of reading achievement took
place a year later. The children in the two experimental classes receiving training had significantly greater gains in phonological
awareness at the end of kindergarten, were significantly more likely to be promoted to first grade rather than to pre-one,
and had a trend toward better reading skills in first grade than did the smaller group of children promoted to first grade
from the control classes. In addition, there were some indications that development of phonological awareness was accompanied
by changes in the underlying phonological system as well. Here we focus on the rationale and implementation of our training
program and discuss the implications of the findings for a potential large-scale study. 相似文献

The posterior predictive model checking method is a flexible Bayesian model‐checking tool and has recently been used to assess fit of dichotomous IRT models. This paper extended previous research to polytomous IRT models. A simulation study was conducted to explore the performance of posterior predictive model checking in evaluating different aspects of fit for unidimensional graded response models. A variety of discrepancy measures (test‐level, item‐level, and pair‐wise measures) that reflected different threats to applications of graded IRT models to performance assessments were considered. Results showed that posterior predictive model checking exhibited adequate power in detecting different aspects of misfit for graded IRT models when appropriate discrepancy measures were used. In order to determine primary health care providers' (PCPs) knowledge gaps on Parkinson's disease, data were collected before and after a one-hour continuing medical education (CME) lecture on early Parkinson's disease recognition and treatment from a sample of 104 PCPs participating at an annual meeting. The main outcome measure was the proportion of questions answered correctly by each PCP before the lecture. We measured the change in proportion of correct answers before and after the lecture (delta). Ninety-nine percent of the PCPs who attended the lecture returned the questionnaire. The level of knowledge on Parkinson's disease before the lecture was relatively low, particularly in management (61.4%) and diagnosis (34.4%). PCPs' perceived knowledge was not associated with the number of correct responses on management at baseline. Test scores significantly improved after the CME lecture. Our results show that PCPs' baseline knowledge of diagnosis and management of Parkinson's disease and self-perceived knowledge on this topic are relatively limited. Appropriately, United States reaccreditation programs do not only rely on self-perception. Longitudinal studies are needed to determine the impact of CME in knowledge retention and patient care in Parkinson's disease. 相似文献

Previous studies have investigated how individuals reach an expert level by counting the number of hours engaged in specific practice types. Here we sought to understand and compare the microstructure (e.g. practice tasks undertaken) of these practice hours experienced by elite and sub-elite British rugby league players. Semi-structured interviews explored the practice experiences of eight international and eight domestic level players. A two-staged thematic analysis was used to interpret the data. The analysis revealed that both player groups experienced a rich and narrow landscape of affordances and were exposed to early diversification of sports experiences during childhood. Differences were identified in domestic level players’ experiences of amateur and professional sports, where episodes of negative developmental environments were reported. International players’ practice experiences revealed differences in their professional careers, where exposure to scenario-based practice and dynamic learning environments were reported. The findings suggest that insights from ecological dynamics provide a suitable theoretical framework to guide coaches in the design of practice environments that should consider the physical, psychological, emotional and social dimensions of expertise acquisition. 相似文献
