Librarians collaborate successfully with nursing faculty and a writing centre to support nursing students doing professional doctorates

This study explores how a three‐way collaboration between a University library, writing centre and faculty created avenues of training and support for students within a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program in an American University. The role of each partner involved in the collaboration is discussed alongside the profile of the DNP students. Lesson planning and classroom techniques for DNP information literacy classes are described and feedback from the partners and the students are discussed. The study confirms that collaboration is effective in improving research and writing skills. D.I.     

Medical librarian 2.0

Web 2.0 refers to an emerging social environment that uses various tools to create, aggregate, and share dynamic content in ways that are more creative and interactive than transactions previously conducted on the Internet. The extension of this social environment to libraries, sometimes called Library 2.0, has profound implications for how librarians will work, collaborate, and deliver content. Medical librarians can connect with present and future generations of users by learning more about the social dynamics of Web 2.0's vast ecosystem, and incorporating some of its interactive tools and technologies (tagging, peer production, and syndication) into routine library practice. doi: 10.1300/J115v26n01_01.     

Income is not enough: incorporating material hardship into models of income associations with parenting and child development

Although research has clearly established that low family income has negative impacts on children's cognitive skills and social-emotional competence, less often is a family's experience of material hardship considered. Using the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Kindergarten Class of 1998-1999 (N=21,255), this study examined dual components of family income and material hardship along with parent mediators of stress, positive parenting, and investment as predictors of 6-year-old children's cognitive skills and social-emotional competence. Support was found for a model that identified unique parent-mediated paths from income to cognitive skills and from income and material hardship to social-emotional competence. The findings have implications for future study of family income and child development and for identification of promising targets for policy intervention.     

Do infants need social cognition to act socially? An alternative look at infant pointing

Tomasello, Carpenter, and Liszkowski (2007) present a comprehensive review of the infant pointing literature. They conclude that infant pointing demonstrates communicative intent from its onset, at about 1 year of age. In this commentary, it is noted that for infants to understand communicative intent, they must have a concept of self and others as intentional agents. Evidence is reviewed to argue that this is not possible until 18-24 months of age. A leaner explanation of how infants might initially succeed in pointing tasks without understanding communicative intent is considered.

道德教育的非知识化路径——道家的知识观及其道德教育方法研究

目前,我们对道德教育的认识基本上是一种知识论立场,把知识视为道德的基础和必要前提,走的是一种通过知识教学促进道德提升的知识化路径。庄子区分了两种性质不同的知识类型,一种是关于道德的知识,一种是关于自然的知识。针对两种知识类型的差异,老庄提出为学与为道两种不同的学习方式。自然科学知识的学习是一种逐渐积累、不断增加的路径,它遵循的是学的规律;道德修养则是一种逐渐减损的路径,它遵循的是不学的规律。道德修养不能是学的方式,只能是不学的方式,要通过非知识化的路径进行。

在手工制作结合QFD2000软件系统的平台之上,提出了QFD质量屋开放式实验体系方案,它综合考虑实验课与相关理论课程的相关影响,鼓励实验创新及鼓励熟练技能.以开发某具体型号的设备为案例,对其进行了实施,提出了质量屋结构要素的改进的描述形式,使得质量屋的描述能够更形象、更直观及易于操作.实验课程的实施情况良好,经过一个学期的开放式实验课程的学习,同学们能够积极创新思考并熟练掌握了QFD实验屋的实际操作技能.
