The importance and contribution of new technology-based firms (NTBFs) to long-term economic development is at the centre of a controversial debate. This paper provides an overview of the current status of research on various issues concerning NTBFs in Germany. The issues covered include the incidence of start-up firms in Germany's technology-intensive sectors and their regional clustering. The review also shows that NTBFs play an important role with regard to the transfer, adoption and diffusion of technology. This article considers three aspects of the knowledge management (KM) literature that have the potential to enhance human
performance technology (HPT) research and practice. First, we believe the recent attempt by economists to describe and quantify
intellectual capital can help HPT to better evaluate and defend organizational expenditures/investments for performance improvement
initiatives. Second, the emerging KM literature explores the linkages between information, learning and performance, provides
a common point of intersection for our fields, and can enhance our analysis and implementation of information (as opposed
to training) solutions as well as inform and expand our conceptual and theoretical understanding. Third, we have observed
that both KM and HPT practitioners are increasingly concerned with the learning that takes place outside the confines of traditional
formal training environments. We briefly review the electronic performance support systems literature from HPT and KM, noting
the similarities in epistemology, design, and interventions. Finally, we highlight the KM research agenda and suggest related

Much research has been dedicated to supporting school communities in combating the problem of school violence. However, violence directed toward teachers is under-investigated, and knowledge of how to support teachers is limited. This qualitative study used conventional content analysis to assess teachers' recommendations for preventing and improving the response to teacher-directed violence. The sample included 245 prekindergarten through 12th grade teachers, all of whom experienced school violence and participated in a larger national survey study on violence against teachers. Using a social-ecological framework and conventional content analysis, teacher recommendations for addressing teacher victimization were identified and organized at the individual, school, community, and society levels. Themes around conflict resolution strategies; improving policies, resources, and relationships with administrators; increasing parental involvement; and changing culture and laws were highlighted. The comparability of the Test of Cognitive Skills (TCS) with the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) and the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale: Fourth Edition (SBIV) with 75 elementary- and middle-school-aged gifted students was investigated. Results indicated that the mean Cognitive Skills Index was about 6 points higher than the WISC-R FSIQ and about 9 points higher than the SBIV Composite score. Correlation coefficients between the TCS Cognitive Skills Index and the SBIV Composite score and the WISC-R FSIQ were.51 and.41, respectively. Absolute differences between individual scores revealed that 44% of the students' SBIV Composite scores were more than 10 points different than their Cognitive Skills Index, and 28% of the students' WISC-R FSIQ scores were more than 10 points different. The results indicated limited comparability between the TCS and WISC-R and SBIV. The implications of these findings and future research questions are discussed. 相似文献

In this paper we investigate the dynamics of chartsuccess in the U.K. pre-recorded popular music industryover the period 1980 to 1993 using the British albumchart listings. We find that the incidence of chartsuccess is substantially skewed to the right, whethermeasured by total weeks spent per artist, averageweeks spent per album, or the total number of albumslisted per artist. We subsequently investigatepossible determinants of the length of chart survivalof albums in order to determine what may be drivingthe observed skewness.
