ABSTRACT The authors present the outcomes of an empirical study, effected in integrative and segregative models of schooling in German speaking Switzerland. The following questions have been analysed: a) the changes in performances of pupils with learning difficulties under different conditions of schooling; b) the development of social factors; c) the development of emotional characteristics. With regard to academic achievements, integrative measures proved to be more effective than instruction in self‐contained special classes. The findings concerning the development of social and emotional characteristics do not allow to draw clear conclusions either in favour of or against integration. A relatively neglected dimension of citizenship is learning processes. A theory of learning is outlined, distinguishing between individual learning processes and collective ones. Linking learning to citizenship suggests a model of cultural citizenship, which entails mechanisms of translation whereby the different levels of learning are connected. In this article, the idea of cultural citizenship is conceived of in terms of learning processes and is defended against what will be called disciplinary citizenship in which learning is reduced to citizenship classes and formal membership of the polity. 相似文献

We report on a project currently under way within the department of Computer Science at the University of Reading exploiting networking and multimedia technology to provide a shared robotics laboratory on the Internet. The laboratory is for use by our own students and students at other Higher Education (HE) institutions in the UK. We present a mobile robot system we have developed to support teaching, and we describe how the Internet is being used to provide and control access to the robot. A case study is presented illustrating the use of the mobile robot in student project work. The key goal of the work we are pursuing is the provision of robots as networked resources similar to other computing resources, in this way making them accessible to many more students than would otherwise be able to gain access to this advanced technology. 相似文献

In this study we investigate how federal and state policy makers, and school principals are working to improve science teacher
quality. Interviews, focused discussions, and policy documents serve as the primary data source. Findings suggest that both
policy makers and principals prioritize increasing incentives for teachers entering the science teaching profession, providing
professional development for new teachers, and using students’ data to evaluate and improve instruction. Differences between
the two leadership groups emerged in terms of the grain size and practicality of their concerns. Our findings indicate that
the complexity of educational challenges to improve science teacher quality call for the co-construction of policy by multiple

ABSTRACT Caring for patients with dementia is complex and demanding. Since family physicians (FPs) provide much of this care, we examined their practices, learning needs, and barriers to care concerning Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. We surveyed 392 (approximately 50%) Nova Scotia FPs and conducted focus groups and interviews with: FPs; staff of long-term care facilities; health professionals in home care; patients and their caregivers; FPs with advanced geriatric training; geriatricians; and psychiatrists. Results suggest that many FPs do not perform assessment and management practices as frequently as they ideally should. However, systemic factors, not only inadequate knowledge, affect care. 相似文献

An approach to teaching criminal justice statistics is advanced that focuses on broad similarities between all inferential tests. Tests of inference include all processes in which a hypothesis is generated and, ultimately, rejected or not. The process of a criminal trial, which is an inferential test, is employed as an extended analogy, through which specific statistical concepts are introduced.
