ABSTRACTThis article reports on an investigation of pre-service teachers’ views on creating digital storybooks for use in early childhood classrooms, and how this activity helped them develop technological, pedagogical and content knowledge for teaching literacy. Cohorts of Master of Teaching PSTs (n = 67) participated in the study over five years. This article also presents a rationale for the creation of digital storybooks as a resource for teaching early literacy. Data for this mixed-methods study came from an online survey, focus group discussions, and PSTs’ reflective comments and analysis of their digital storybooks and rationales. This article focuses primarily on the survey data. The majority of PSTs reported that the process of creating digital storybooks and using them during professional practice was useful in helping them develop their technological, pedagogical and content knowledge for teaching literacy in the early years, as well as their knowledge about students. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThis paper presents a small-scale qualitative study, which addressed stories of ‘becoming an undergraduate student’. The work took place in one university in the South West of England and involved 4 researchers, 4 co-researchers (undergraduate students) and 12 students from a Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Stories of ‘becoming student’ were perceived and experienced by the researchers as containing complex histories, intertwined with problematic systemic processes, which combined to create challenging, political and diverse realities for students. There was a consensus amongst the researchers that institutional practices did not work to uncover these lived experiences, nor aim to understand them. The study aimed to gain further insight into what becoming a student entails, how ‘student’ is positioned by the academy and to consider how future practices could make transitions into the student world more visible, shared and understood. The work highlights how processes and experiences of becoming an undergraduate student are wide, varied and complex but there are common matters of concern; issues of resources, the importance of student networks and the impact of external perceptions. The authors suggest that if these aspects of the student world were made more visible and understood, Higher Education (H.E) may be better prepared to support positive student transition, success and overall experience. 相似文献

Sibling relationships within the childhood families of 144 eminent Canadian women are described in this exploratory study into perceived closeness within the sibship. The factors that influenced the closeness of the relationship were sought using thematic analysis of the women's reflections on their childhood. Half of the sample experienced close sibling relationships; half did not. Those who felt close to at least one of their siblings often expressed their own responsibility as well as rivalry within the sibship. Those who did not feel close to their brothers or sisters often blamed the age difference among the children, the perceived favoritism of one child by the parents, and the feeling of the gifted girl of being alone, special, or different. A developmental change in relationships over time was noted, particularly by those women who were not closely bonded to their siblings in childhood. 相似文献

ABSTRACT Wearable resistance training involves added load attached directly to the body during sporting movements. The effects of load position during running are not yet fully established. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to determine spatio-temporal and kinetic characteristics during submaximal running using upper, lower and whole-body wearable resistance (1–10% body mass (BM)). Twelve trained male runners completed eight 2-min treadmill running bouts at 3.9 m/s with and without wearable resistance. The first and last bouts were unloaded, while the middle 6 were randomised wearable resistance conditions: upper body (UB) 5% BM, lower body (LB) 1%, 3%, 5% BM and whole body (WB) 5%, 10% BM. Wearable resistance of 1–10% BM resulted in a significant increase in heart rate (5.40–8.84%), but minimal impact on spatio-temporal variables. Loads of 5% BM and greater caused changes in vertical stiffness, vertical and horizontal force, and impulse. Functional and effective propulsive force (2.95%, 2.88%) and impulse (3.40%, 3.38%) were significantly (p < 0.05) greater with LB5% than UB5%. Wearable resistance may be used to increase muscular kinetics during running without negatively impacting spatio-temporal variables. The application of these findings will vary depending on athlete goals. Future longitudinal studies are required to validate training contentions. 相似文献
