In 1997, the University of Queensland (http://www.uq.edu.au) made a commitment to move to flexible modes of delivery of programs of study from a largely face-to-face model of delivery. This change was linked to the opening of a new campus, as well as recognition of a need for change in current teaching practice. This led to a university-wide response to reassess current practice in order to be able to develop, implement, and deliver services and programs of study more effectively and appropriately to the students. This paper reports the process of implementing a university-wide response for flexible delivery that includes discipline-specific faculty development, design, development, and production of flexible learning materials, and the development of administrative and student-support services to meet the different requirements of the students. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThis article describes the development of an evaluation and impact framework to assess the effectiveness of educational innovations. It can be utilized within a single program, as well as at institutional and national levels. While it is contextualized in a Chilean university, it is argued that it is widely applicable as it is informed by international best practice.The rationale that informed the development of the evaluation framework is described and is illustrated using two programs: Faculty Learning Communities; and Student Learning Assistants. International students from South‐East Asia who study in Australia are often portrayed negatively compared to local students in terms of learning and study practices. This article discusses some of the misconceptions held by university teachers and administrators about South‐East Asian students studying in Australia and examines them in the light of recent research. In particular, it challenges the views that students from South‐East Asia are surface learners, passive non‐participants in class who prefer the company of other Asian students. These findings challenge university teachers to reconsider accepted beliefs and practices when teaching all students, but particularly students from South‐East Asia. 相似文献

Literature examining the recruitment order of motor units during lengthening (eccentric) contractions was reviewed to determine if fast-twitch motor units can be active while lower threshold slow-twitch motor units are not active. Studies utilizing surface electromyogram (EMG) amplitude, single motor unit activity, spike amplitude–frequency analyses, EMG power spectrum, mechanomyographic, and phosphocreatine-to-creatine ratio (PCr/Cr) techniques were reviewed. Only single motor unit and PCr/Cr data were found to be suitable to address the goals of this review. Nine of ten single motor unit studies, examining joint movement velocities up to 225°/s and forces up to 53% of a maximum voluntary contraction, found that the size principle of motor unit recruitment applied during lengthening contractions. Deviation from the size principle was demonstrated by one study examining movements within a small range of low velocities and modest forces, although other studies examining similar low forces and lengthening velocities reported size-ordered recruitment. The PCr/Cr data demonstrated the activation of all fibre types in lengthening maximal contractions. Most evidence indicates that for lengthening contractions of a wide range of efforts and speeds, fast-twitch muscle fibres cannot be selectively recruited without activity of the slow-twitch fibres of the same muscle. 相似文献

During the early phases of research, semiparametric models (SPMs) have the advantage of recovering latent nonlinearity over parametric counterparts. Structural equation mixture models (Bauer, 2005) can be applied as SPMs to flexibly recover and describe the form of the unknown latent relationship with minimal distributional assumptions. This short report extends the work on this SPM (Bauer, 2005; Pek, Losardo & Bauer, 2011) by developing approximate simultaneous confidence bands or confidence envelopes (CEs) to evaluate potential nonlinearity of the unknown latent function. A line-finding algorithm to be used in conjunction with these CEs is also developed as an implementation of an informal test to diagnose nonlinearity. Coverage of the CEs and performance of the algorithm in terms of rates of detecting latent nonlinearity are evaluated by Monte Carlo. Recommendations for the use of these CEs and the algorithm for detecting nonlinearity are suggested. 相似文献
