Schools are now urged to make every child matter. In this paper we present the case of the Coalfields Alternatives to Exclusion (CATE) strategy in which pupils at risk of permanent exclusion are offered the opportunity to start afresh in a new school. Without the stigma of exclusion, pupils are able to develop new relationships with peers and teachers and enhance self-esteem. We argue that this system of managed moves, despite some difficulties and challenges, offers an insight into the ways in which feelings of mattering can be translated into new behaviours and intentions. This we suggest provides pupils with a positive opportunity to resume their education and to be genuinely included in the life of their new school. 相似文献

Where two sets of measurements can each be grouped into below average, average and above average classifications with an equal number assigned to each of the below average and above average classifications, a 3 by 3 table can then be tabulated with frequency counts. The exact value of the product moment coefficient of correlation can then be calculated very simply by means of the formula, r = (DIFF)/2m, where DIFF is the difference between the sum of the corner numbers on the positive diagonal and the sum of the corner numbers on the negative diagonal, and m equals the number in each of the below average and above average classifications for each variable. A model of the cognitive structures and processes thought to compose the human information-processing system is presented. Possible difficulties in processing information are discussed because these may contribute to client problems and concerns. Recent work in applying understandings, from human information processing to an elucidation of client change in counseling, is reviewed. Information-processing models of client-centered and rational-emotive counseling are constructed that relate counseling skills and strategies employed in these approaches to hypothesized client cognitive changes. An integrated view of client cognitive change in counseling also is presented. A study comparing the performance of males and females on the Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale extended the previous findings of a differential response pattern for males and females to a Canadian high school population. An item analysis identified 12 of the 50 items as being responsible for the higher female scores. The scores for Canadian high school students in this study were found to fall midway between those of university students and those of psychiatric patients tested in previous studies. 相似文献
