Verbal and behavioral measures of children's knowledge are frequently dissociated. These situations represent a largely untapped but important resource for furthering an understanding of human cognition. In this paper, verbal-behavioral dissociations in children are discussed and analyzed, drawing from a wide range of domains. The article explores what might lead to different responses in different modalities, and it is proposed that children's goals may be an important factor. It is concluded that a variety of factors are involved in producing these dissociations, and that a richer picture of development will result from attention to these factors.  相似文献

饮食文化的传播是多样化的。我们可以通过移民、烹调书以及其他一些标志探究一种文化如何融入新环境。自古以来,食物就是中国人在餐桌内外普遍关注和讨论的话题。研究表明,全世界华人的饮食习惯的变迁是最为迟缓的。本文回顾了自1785年第一批华人进入并定居美国以来的一些标志性事件及其带来的变迁。随着华人移民的不断涌入,越来越多作为中华烹饪传统载体的中餐食谱在美国出版,中餐馆也在美国不断蔓延,养活了众多美国人。本文重点选取几个标志性事件作为说明依据。其中包括1899年美国政府刊发宣传册,鼓励种植和食用中国的蔬菜;20世纪上半叶中餐食谱的出版与使用;时至今日已有超过47000家中餐馆遍布美国,等等。  相似文献

In the Netherlands, the quality of the reading curriculum is currently under debate because of disappointing results on national and international assessments of students’ reading skills and motivation. In a mixed-method study, we analyzed the content of Dutch textbooks for reading comprehension instruction (i.e., the implemented curriculum) and teachers’ evaluation and use of these books (i.e., the enacted curriculum). A materials analysis of reading comprehension lessons (N?=?80) in eight textbooks for grades 4 and 5 was complemented with semi-structured teacher interviews (N?=?29) and lesson observations (N?=?11), with a focus on the quality of reading strategy and text structure instruction in the curriculum. Main findings are (1) a lack of alignment between lesson goals, theory, and assignments, (2) a strong focus on practicing strategies, (3) limited declarative knowledge about strategies and text structure, (4) little opportunities for self-regulated strategy application. The teachers that were interviewed mention similar problems, but still hardly deviate from the textbook’s content and pedagogical guidelines. We make recommendations to improve the quality of the curriculum.

‘Art Now in the Classroom’, was a joint venture between Goldsmiths College Education Department, Tate Modern and six Primary Schools in and around the London area (Sandhurst, Pilgrim's Way, Hawesdown, Hawkesmoore, Lauriston and Myatt Garden.) It ran from September to November 2000, beginning initially with the placement of two Goldsmiths students at each school then continuing with school visits to Tate Modern, and four Fridays spent working in the classroom, culminating in an exhibition at Tate Modern where the children from all six primary schools got to see their own work publicly displayed. This paper is an account of the work produced by the children from Sandhurst Primary School and an assessment of both the educational opportunities it provided for the primary classes involved and for the Goldsmiths students involved. The aims of the project were to demonstrate effective ways to work collaboratively with contemporary art, to support the development of teaching strategies at KS2 and KS3 and to offer possible approaches for working with contemporary material in the classroom.  相似文献
