Researchers have posited that children generally learn to read in environments that are trusting, comfortable, and offer small

evaluation research study examines the Pre-Kindergarten Incentive Program, an early childhood demonstration program in Washington,
DC designed to study several urban community-based sites. The authors facilitate a discourse on how all early childhood education
programs can become high quality programs through standardized observations, evaluations, and constructive feedback. The article
describes the demonstration program, highlights general findings from standardized classroom observations, discusses areas
needing improvement, and presents strategies for addressing areas of challenge. It will reveal to early childhood educators
how evaluation findings can improve teaching and learning techniques and environments in early childhood programs. The goal
is to promote overall improvement in reading, reasoning, and literacy for children enrolled in early childhood programs and

We analyzed the effect of an 8-week strength training (ST) program on the rate of force development (RFD) and electromyographic activity (EMG) in older women. Seventeen women (M age = 63.4 years, SD = 4.9) without previous ST experience were randomly assigned to either a control (n=7) or training (n=10) group. A leg-press isometric test was used for assessment. ST (three sessions/ week, three sets of 10-12 repetition maximum, five different exercises) induced significant increases (p < .05) on peak RPD (48.4%) and on RFD) and EMG of vastus medialis at time intervals of 0-50, 0-100, 0-150, and 0-200 ms (41.1-69.2% and 43.8-64.3%, respectively). This article demonstrates the importance of treatment application procedures on the consolidation effectiveness obtained by comparison of the results obtained using three different consolidants on four carbonate stone types, and proposes a general methodology for assessing the potential effectiveness of consolidants in laboratory conditions. It stresses the relevance of taking into account the treatment methodology, given the influence application protocols can have on the overall behaviour of the consolidated material. Several mechanical properties were assessed to demonstrate this influence on the performance of the consolidant. The results demonstrate that the strengthening action achieved with a specific product can only be defined in a strict relation to the treatment protocol used to produce it. The results also contribute towards the definition of standard testing protocols on stone consolidation. The application of a consolidant by direct contact capillary absorption is a reliable procedure and the results are easier to interpret than others obtained by brushing or by full immersion, thus making this procedure a good candidate for an eventual standard laboratory assessment method of the consolidation action of any specific stone/consolidant combination. This study also showed that the best test method to assess the strengthening action of stone consolidants in soft stones is DRMS (Drilling Resistance Measuring System). Moreover, the collection of longitudinal ultrasound velocity profiles determined in stones specimens treated by contact capillary absorption was shown to be a useful non-destructive method to assess the depth of the strengthening action achieved. 相似文献

This study aims to be a contribution to a theoretical model that explains the effectiveness of the learning and decision-making processes by means of a feedback and mental models perspective. With appropriate mental models, managers should be able to improve their capacity to deal with dynamically complex contexts, in order to achieve long-term success. We present a set of hypotheses about the influence of feedback information and systems thinking facilitation on mental models and management performance. We explore, under controlled conditions, the role of mental models in terms of structure and behaviour. A test based on a simulation experiment with a system dynamics model was performed. Three out of the four hypotheses were confirmed. Causal diagramming positively influences mental model structure similarity, mental model structure similarity positively influences mental model behaviour similarity, and mental model behaviour similarity positively influences the quality of the decision. 相似文献
