Psoriasis is a common and an inflammatory skin disease. Trace elements play an important role in the skin metabolism such as keratinisation and melanin formation as well as immunological and inflammatory reactions. Henceforth, the present study was aimed to evaluate the essential metals with special reference to Cu and Zn. In this study, 72 psoriatic patients and 50 controls were enrolled. On the basis of PASI score psoriatic group comprising of 48 mild and 24 severe psoriatic patients were grouped. The serum trace elements analysis in the subjects revealed that serum Cu levels and Cu/Zn ratio was significantly higher in the psoriatic patients as compared to controls. Interestingly, severity of the psoriasis was well correlated with the serum Cu levels. Taking together, all these findings suggest that Cu may be a major culprit in the pathogenesis as well as in the severity of the disease. 相似文献

The microbicidal capacity of polymorphonuclear (PMN) leukocytes of normal human subjects was evaluated by estimating the release
of lysosomal enzymes from normal cells and cells rendered incapable of ingesting particles by treatment with cytochalasin
B, on exposure to a particulate stimulus-serum treated zymosan (STZ). The release of lysosomal enzymes namely beta-glucuronidase,
lysozyme, acid phosphatase, alkaline phosphatase was found to be 16.28%, 27.84%, 20.54%, 15.40% respectively. The cells rendered
incapable of ingesting particles showed enhanced response. The percentage release of beta-glucuronidase, lysozyme, acid and
alkaline phosphatase was increased to 20.58%, 37.95%, 25.87% and 33.04% respectively. This type of response in cytochalasin
B treated PMN leukocytes is due to the conversion of these cells into “secretory cells”, which release lysosomal enzymes outside
the cell, by the process of reverse endocytosis. 相似文献

The continuous use of synthetic hormones as contraceptive pill or hormonal replacement therapy among women is increasing day by day. The widespread use of different formulations as oral contraceptives by women throughout their reproductive cycle has given rise to a serious concern for studying the effects of oral contraceptives on enzymatic profile and DNA damage in peripheral blood lymphocytes among users. The present study was carried out on women taking oral contraceptives. The study was based on the questionnaire having the information of reproductive history, fasting, age, health, nature of menstrual cycle, bleeding and other disease. The profile of the blood serum enzymes i.e. alkaline phosphatase (ALP), gamma glutamyl transferase (GGT), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), aminotransferases (SGOT and SGPT), serum proteins (albumin and globulin) and DNA damage in lymphocytes was studied among users and non-users. The results of the present study suggest that OCs not only effects enzymatic activity but also results in DNA damage that may vary with the duration of using oral contraceptives. A significant increase in LDH, GGT, SGPT, SGOT, globulin and decrease in ALP as well as albumin was found among users as compared to non-users. The observed DNA damage was more in users as compared to non-users. Hormonal contraceptives seem to exert DNA damage and also have significant effects on blood serum enzymes. 相似文献

Online instructors need to take on a multi‐dimensional role and to be an effective online educator they are required to possess a varied and wider range of competencies. Preparing teachers for online education involves preparing them for a wide variety of roles and developing related competencies. However, the extent of emphasis required to be placed on each of these roles or competencies during a teacher training program may vary according to its culture and the context. The investigation reported in this article obtained expert opinions with regard to the priority and criticality of eight online instructor roles identified in earlier research on online education. Pedagogical roles received the highest priority by the respondents, followed by professional, evaluator, social facilitator, technologist, advisor, administrator, and researcher roles. These results have implications for teacher education and further research pertaining to the context in India. 相似文献

Lead ranks as one of the most serious environmental poisons all over the world amongst toxic heavy metals with no known biological function useful for the human body. A case of lead toxicity due to consumption of herbal medicine is being discussed. The case presented with gastrointestinal complaints and history of intake of herbal medicines for diabetes control for past 8 months. The analysis of the powdered herbal medicine procured from ayurveda practitioner was found to have high content of lead responsible for the lead toxicity. The patient is under regular followup. He has improved symptomatically on chelating therapy and blood lead levels have gradually improved. Regular awareness programs should be conducted in the population regarding possible exposure through home made herbal remedies so that general public can be made aware of the dangerous side effects of lead and other heavy metals on health. 相似文献

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is an old age disorder of basal ganglia which involves oligomerization of α-synuclein protein and formation of intercellular inclusions known as “Lewy bodies” in substantia nigra and caudate nuclei in brain which is progressive in nature. It is second most prevalent neurodegenerative disorder characterized by tremor at rest, muscle rigidity, slowness of movement (bradykinesia, akinesia), and changes in posture (instability). Both excess and deficiency in levels of transition metals (especially iron, copper) can be detrimental to the central nervous system. Abnormalities in iron (Fe) and copper (Cu) metabolism have been reported to produce oxidative stress which is one of the major cause in pathogenesis of PD. In the present study 35 PD patients and 33 controls of Northern Indian population were included and serum levels of Fe, Cu and ceruloplasmin (Cp) were measured. Serum Fe (p < 0.01) and Cu (p < 0.01) levels were found to be significantly decreased in PD, whereas there was no significant change in Cp levels in PD patients as compared to controls. These results suggest the existence of a defect in iron which over the time, may hasten the entry of iron into the brain and decrease iron in the extracellular compartment in PD patients. 相似文献
