It is perhaps inevitable, but none the less disturbing to discover errors, in standard reference works. The source of the error may be well hidden, but it is the responsibility of each researcher to check “accepted” findings, whenever opportunity presents itself. This is as true with respect to bibliographic citations as to research data or analysis. This “research coup” by Frank Kahn is one of several comments on Lawrence Lichty's “Who's Who on Firsts: A Search for Challengers” published in the Winter, 1965–66 issue of the Journal. Many corrections or additions were published in the Spring, 1966, issue, and readers are urged to send in other “challenges” as soon as possible. Mr. Kahn, Lecturer in radio and television at Queens College, has contributed to the Journal of Broadcasting in the past. 相似文献

The number of older illiterate adults seeking therapy for acquired communication disorders is increasing. Communication bias may place health‐care professionals at risk for providing appropriate services to these patients. There is a need to identify illiterate patients, and to study the impact of current diagnostic and rehabilitative procedures on them. Possible effects of illiteracy on hearing‐impaired, aphasic, and laryngectomy patients are discussed, and preliminary suggestions for providing comprehensive rehabilitative services to them are provided. 相似文献

Social-Cognitive Predictors of First-Year College Persistence: The Importance of Proximal Assessment
Early withdrawal from college can present problems for students and educators. In an effort to broaden our understanding of factors associated with students' persistence in higher education, we examined the ability of variables from Social Cognitive Career Theory assessed before college and during students' second semester to predict first-year college persistence. Hierarchical logistic regression analyses revealed that academic ability/past performance and social-cognitive variables assessed during students' second semester were significant predictors of first-year persistence. However, academic ability/past performance was the only precollege predictor significantly related to persistence. Implications for institutional assessment, intervention, and research are presented. 相似文献
