A sudden creatinine increase: A case report

Creatinine and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) are first-line laboratory parameters in the diagnosis of various renal diseases. In recent decades, cystatin C (cysC) has furthered the laboratory repertoire regarding renal status assessment and has been implemented in many clinical guidelines. Accordingly, with the establishment of cysC as a renal routine biomarker, further opportunities for assessing eGFR have been attained. Nevertheless, various limitations are still associated with cysC and creatinine analysis. Preanalytical errors could cause false results in both biomarkers. In our case, we were confronted with implausibly elevated creatinine levels due to preanalytical errors.     

Children's expectations for television entertainment vs. television news events

Young children's limited ability to recognize and defend against commercial messages has led to numerous concerns about advertising that targets child‐viewers. Industry self‐regulation of child‐oriented advertising content is one response to those concerns. With the demise of the National Association of Broadcasters Code in 1982, guidelines maintained by the Children's Advertising Review Unit (CARU) of the National Council of Better Business Bureaus comprise the only industry‐wide self‐regulation. This study evaluates the extent of compliance with the CARU standards across a sample of over 10,000 ads directed to children. The results indicate a high overall rate of adherence to the guidelines. Two problem areas emerged which accounted for most of the violations observed: ads that featured premium offers, and ads for recorded telephone message services. The findings are discussed in terms of their implications for the child audience.     

Teaching a Course on the Arts and Counseling: Experiential Learning in Counselor Education

The authors offer a rationale, structure, and method for teaching an experientially based class in using the arts as an adjunct to counseling. They describe the benefits to counseling students, review literature documenting the effective uses of the arts in counseling, and recommend textbooks and other resources. Professional and ethical considerations are noted, suggestions for collaborative teaching are offered, and the authors' experience in piloting such a course is documented.     

Muralism and the People: Culture,Popular Citizenship,and Government in Post-Revolutionary Mexico

This paper examines the history of Mexican muralism within the governmental development of a national cultural infrastructure after the Revolution of 1910. Treating mural art as a technical apparatus of popular communication, the paper argues for a more complex understanding of cultural communication through analysis of the institutional apparatuses of heritage as discursive sites of popular citizenship. In addition, this paper theorizes and historicizes Mexican state formation through the insights of Michel Foucault's essay on \ldblquote Governmentality\rdblquote for the purpose of providing a more nuanced theory of the relationship between culture, power, and the people
