The generality of a multilevel factorial model of social competence (SC) for preschool children was tested in a 5‐group, multinational sample (N = 1,540) using confirmatory factor analysis. The model fits the observed data well, and tests constraining paths for measured variables to their respective first‐order factors across samples also fit well. Equivalence of measurement models was found at sample and sex within‐sample levels but not for age within sample. In 2 groups, teachers’ ratings were examined as correlates of SC indicators. Composites of SC indicators were significantly associated with both positive and negative child attributes from the teachers’ ratings. The findings contribute to understanding of both methodological and substantive issues concerning SC in young children. 相似文献

Recent work in case-based reasoning (CBR) reinforces the importance of situated learning, expert cases, and authentic tasks
and activities for novice learners. As novices engage CBR environments, they apprentice in the experts’ practices while developing
the understanding, knowledge and skill of a given community. This study examined how prospective teachers, as novices in a
semester-long course, engaged and developed expert-like practices using the case knowledge of experienced teachers who teach
with technology. By engaging experienced teachers’ knowledge and skill via Web-enhanced cases, prospective teachers refined

Listening to ‘the thick bunch’: (mis)understanding and (mis)representation of young people in jobs without training in the South West of England 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Young people in jobs without training are ubiquitous but invisible, working in shops, cafes, and other low‐waged, low‐status occupations. Commonly elided with young people who are not in education, employment or training, they are positioned as the ‘thick bunch’ with empty and meaningless working lives. The main purpose of the research was to explore the experiences of this group of marginalised and socially disadvantaged young people through a deeper understanding of their interests and enthusiasms inside and outside work. These young people have been (mis)understood and (mis)represented. A more holistic and nuanced approach that is not uncritically founded upon a set of neo‐liberal stereotypes and assumptions, and instead recognises the complexity of their lives, would offer new opportunities for understanding and representation of their interests. Our findings challenge the conflation of identity with work and the notion that only certain forms of employment create meaning. 相似文献

Secondary teachers participating in summer professional development chemistry workshops in Texas used an online chemistry
tutoring program, OWL Quick Prep (Day et al. in OWL: Online Web-based Learning, Brooks-Cole Cengage Learning, Florence, KY,
1997) as a part of the inservice training. Self-reported demographic data were used to identify factors in preparation and practice
that affected pretest and posttest scores. Data from the pretests and posttests indicate that nomenclature and problems requiring
calculations were the most challenging topics for the cohort. The participants who correctly completed 90% of the questions

The purpose of this study was to examine how the implementation of after-school programs in Korea’s public schools is related
to educational equality and private tutoring expenses. The analyzed data was from the Survey on the Status of Private Tutoring
and the Study of the Policy Measures to Reduce Private Tutoring Expenses conducted by KEDI (Korea Education Development Institute)
in (International conference for exploring the ways to activate the after-school program, KEDI, Seoul, 2007). The Chi-square test was employed to investigate (a) the relationship between after-school participation and family income
and residential location of students (b) the association between after-school engagement and the reduction in private tutoring
expenses. The study found that: (a) in general, low-income and rural students participated more than higher income and urban
peers in after-school programs and (b) after-school participation was generally negatively associated with private tutoring
engagement and the impact of after-school participation on the reduction in private tutoring expenses was stronger for low-income
students in elementary and high schools and rural students in high schools. The overall findings provide further research
issue regarding whether after-school programs can help foster educational equality by offering more opportunities for learning
and achievement improvement for disadvantaged students. The results also imply the potential of after-school programs in reducing

Recently, the importance of ill‐structured problem‐solving in real‐world contexts has become a focus of educational research. Particularly, the hypothesis‐development process has been examined as one of the keys to developing a high‐quality solution in a problem context. The authors of this study examined predictive relations between young adolescents' metacognition, prior domain knowledge, and hypothesis‐development performance in a computer‐supported environment. Data were collected from 11‐ and 12‐year‐old Korean students (N = 101). A hypothesised model in predicting hypothesis‐development performance was evaluated using structural equation modelling. Both metacognition and prior domain knowledge significantly predicted young adolescents' hypothesis‐development performance. Implications and limitations of the present study and issues, including the experimental design, are discussed. 相似文献

Schools face a lot of data on the functioning of their school which they can use to make improvements in teaching, learning and the organization. For data use to lead to improvement, it is important to further research the concept data-driven decision making. The results of this explorative study in the Netherlands show that teachers mainly use classroom level data for making instructional decisions at classroom level, and school leaders mainly use school level data for policy development decisions. This article ends with suggestions with regard to enhancing the effectiveness of data-driven decision making, for example by stressing the importance of developing teachers' competence in the use of data. 相似文献

AbstractWhile visitors look for a complete ‘experience’ and select travel destinations on the basis of the total set of destination attributes, individual suppliers that operate independently usually market offer in fragmented pieces. A destination brand with strong equity leads to greater commitment in the form of loyalty and willingness to revisit the destination. As one of the key components for destination characteristics, the sports industry has rapidly developed in recent years. Two cities were discussed as the known for sport city case and Frisco, Texas was examined for the current study.
