In a market characterized by a very large number of consumers, irregularly and infrequently choosing from a constantly changing
menu of possibilities, widely available impartial information and advice would be expected to make a significant impact on
demand. In the U.S. in 2003, however, there was zero correlation between critical ratings for films and gross box office earnings.
For movies released on more than 1,000 screens, critical ratings were indeed positively related to gross earnings, and, together
with production budgets and the number of opening screens, explained more than half the variance. But films with only limited
opening release received higher average ratings. This is especially the case for foreign movies and documentaries but also
true for American films, whose ratings, though positively related to the box office, seldom have enough influence to propel
a movie into later wide exhibition or high earnings.

Advances in technology assisted education are revolutionizing the educational process as most know it today. What impact, if any, does technology-assisted education have on the future of higher education? In this study, we examine data from an ongoing evaluation of the distance education program for graduate level business students in a private university. The study addresses the impact of technology-assisted learning on academic performance among distance learners and their on-campus counterparts. The study further explores the relationship between academic performance and students' technological adeptability. The findings indicate, when adjusted for gender (females out-performed males), there were no significant differences in academic performance between distance learners and their on-campus counterparts. Analysis also shows no significant differences in overall academic performance between technology-adept students and those without technological skills. These findings may remove at least some perceived barriers in the decision to initiate distance education programs. 相似文献

The technology was traced from its beginning as a silent motion picture through its current manifestation in videotapes and videodiscs. This paper combines perspectives on nonprofit organizations, clubs and club goods, demand for performing arts, and demand for charitable contributions to consider relationships between nonprofit organizations in the performing arts and their patrons. A broad view is taken of factors influencing demand for club goods, charitable donations, and for the live performing arts. These are integrated in a model of demand for the outputs and services of nonprofits in the performing arts. Data from a single institution is used to test hypotheses.
