OBJECTIVE: The primary objective was to examine the long-term impact of mother-son incest and positive initial perceptions of sexual abuse experiences on adult male psychosocial functioning. METHOD: Sixty-seven clinic-referred men with a history of sexual abuse participated. The participants completed self-report measures regarding their current psychosocial functioning and described the nature of their sexual and physical abuse experiences during childhood. RESULTS: Seventeen men reported mother-son incest, and these men endorsed more trauma symptoms than did other sexually abused men, even after controlling for a history of multiple perpetrators and physical abuse. Mother-son incest was likely to be subtle, involving behaviors that may be difficult to distinguish from normal caregiving (e.g., genital touching), despite the potentially serious long-term consequences. Twenty-seven men recalled positive or mixed initial perceptions of the abuse, including about half of the men who had been abused by their mothers. These men reported more adjustment problems than did men who recalled purely negative initial perceptions. CONCLUSIONS: Mother-son incest and positive initial perceptions of sexual abuse experiences both appear to be risk factors for more severe psychosocial adjustment problems among clinic-referred men. 相似文献

Pre-school children with special needs face a complex transition to school, requiring additional administrative, social and
educational support. In this study, parents of 40 children with special needs reported on the transition to school experience
of their 4–6-year-old child. They completed a measure of impact of the child’s disability on their family and an assessment
of the quality of services experienced. Individual, semi-structured interviews contextualized these evaluations. Twenty children
(pre-transition) were in preschool; 20 had already started school (post). Post-transition parents reported less average disability
impact on family, generally lower perception of quality of care than pre-transition ones, and long waiting periods for school-based
support. Most parents, however, reported satisfactory linkages between prior-to-school services and school. In conclusion,
this study demonstrates that, despite the current climate of support for early child development, barriers for satisfactory

Essentially a re‐write of Jamieson (1984) ‘Coping with Physical Violence: some suggestions’, this paper attempts to up‐date practice on the subject of dealing with potentially aggressive and certainly very troublesome EBD children and young people. It takes as its starting point that there are no ‘quick fixes’ for challenging behaviour but still manages to list a number of valuable guidelines which at least some of the time, in some circumstances, will work for some children. In addition to commenting on how to deal with acting‐out behaviour of an extreme sort, or better still to prevent it occurring in the first place, an attempt is made at providing a framework for understanding aggression and violence. An interactive model of challenging behaviour is favoured. Some of the guidelines are simply a rehash of those in the 1984 paper while others are new and tackled from an altogether different perspective.
