The purpose of this field experiment was to test hypotheses concerned with media effects on the ability to share and discuss information in administrative appeals hearings in the area of unemployment insurance. Three communication modes were compared: (a) face‐to‐face, the traditional mode; (b) split telephone, in which participants speak from locations convenient to each; and (c) office telephone, in which the agency representative is at one location and all other participants are located together at another agency office. Of the numerous tests conducted, few revealed significant differences among the three modes. These results corroborated findings from previous laboratory and field research: in‐person hearings compared favorably with the two telephone modes, and the split conference hearing tended to receive higher ratings than the office telephone configuration.  相似文献

An Oregon State University Libraries (OSUL) study group's review of its current policies, practices, and costs provides an illustrative case study of the challenges in managing government documents during this period of transition from print to digital. In its exploration of more aggressive approaches to greatly increasing access to electronic collections and reducing the size of the print footprint, OSUL learned that the current requirements of the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) hamper such efforts. This case study provides background on prior internal studies, OSUL's participation in a shared housing agreement, statistics on size and current usage of its government documents, and the costs to receive, process, and provide access to its document collection. It concludes with the recommendations for OSUL to be as proactive as it can be under the current FDLP rules and regulations while bringing projected costs to manage government documents more in line with higher priorities.  相似文献

This is one of a series of studies on how and why public school administrators at various status levels arrive at beliefs regarding selected school policy and implementation decisions. In this study the subjects were building and central office administrators who participated in curriculum decision making during the years 1982–1987. Of particular interest was identification of internal and external system sources which the participants thought had influenced them to believe that effected changes were or were not needed. Estimates of the power of major influence origins and the sources of such power were sought as well. A very large majority of administrators attributed major curriculum change influence to internal system sources. On the other hand, the highest ranking study participant presented the most notable exception to that view. Explanation of these phenomena is the focus of this work.  相似文献
