Research on work life and job satisfaction of university professors is becoming an important research issue in the field of
higher education. This study used questionnaires administered to 1 770 teachers from different levels, types, and academic
fields of Chinese universities to investigate job satisfaction among university professors and the relationship between job
satisfaction of university professors and the organizational characteristics of the university. The job satisfaction of Chinese
university professors includes six dimensions: career development and school management, teaching and research services, salary,
benefits and logistical services, professional reputation, teaching and research facilities, and the work itself. The overall
job satisfaction levels are close to average, with salary and benefits receiving the lowest level of satisfaction. The organizational
characteristics of universities, such as school type, school level, academic field, organizational climate, evaluation orientation,
and school management, all have significant effects on the overall job satisfaction of university professors. The organizational

The past two decades have witnessed the great developments in principal training in China. Research on principal training
in China is increasing in quantity and quality with its expanding practice. The purpose of this paper is to explore and analyze
the changing landscape of scholarship on principal training in China by examining the quantity of publications, themes covered,
methodological approaches and the status of articles published from 1989 to 2008, as listed in the Chinese Database of Journals.
This is the first serious academic effort to review and reflect on the Chinese scholarship of principal training and school

Using parents' answers to open-ended questions, we examine variation in parents' management of their children's education within the home, at school, and in the community as a function of whether their children were experiencing academic success or academic problems. Within the home, parents of high achievers used more specific strategies to help their children with their schoolwork and had more supportive conversations with their children than parents of low achievers. At their children's school, parents of high achievers not only were more involved but had different reasons for their involvement than parents of low achievers. In the community, more parents of high achievers explicitly engaged their children in activities to support their achievement than parents of low achievers. ‘Societal culture’ in Singapore can be understood as an evolving mix of ‘traditional’ and ‘modernizing’ cultural strands, complexly related to dominant political and economic processes and aligned in the pursuit of a wider national vision. Following the mid-80s economic slowdown, there was a major realignment in these cultural strands that resulted in a process of decentralization of the education system, and a rethinking of the principal's role. Though the immediate effect of this was the creation of independent and autonomous schools, a space for autonomous action was opened up generally for school principals who were willing and able to seize the opportunity. We draw on two case studies of improving Singapore secondary schools to explore the links between societal culture, school leadership and school improvement. We argue that although both of the case study principals appropriated aspects of societal culture as part of their improvement strategies, it was the nature of the appropriation that made the schools and leadership styles distinctive. 相似文献

Most of today's students are skilled in instant messaging, Web browsing, online games, and blogs. These have become part of the social landscape and have changed how we learn and where we learn. The question becomes how to harness the attractiveness and ubiquity of electronic venues toward the goal of teaching neuroscience. At the Rice University Center for Technology in Teaching and Learning, a central focus is the creation of innovative materials that appeal to middle school students. A recent project was undertaken through a Science Education Drug Abuse Partnership Award (R25 DA15063) from the National Institute on Drug Abuse to inform adolescents about the neurobiology of substance abuse and the current research dealing with a class of drugs known as club drugs. Problem-based learning, multimedia pedagogy, and the National Science Content Standards were integrated to produce The Reconstructors, an episodic series available via the World Wide Web at http://reconstructors.rice.edu. A field test of students from five schools assessed the retention of content after "playing" The Reconstructors series titled Nothing to Rave About. A sample of 5535 Year 9 and Year 10 female pupils, aged between 13 and 15 years attending state-maintained secondary schools throughout England completed a scale of attitude toward their local area, together with the short form Junior Eysenck Personality Questionnaire. We advance and subsequently test the proposition thatmarkets for fine art are rational, namely, that, inthe determination of price, traders make use of allrelevant art historical and critical information, asrevealed by hedonic content analysis, as well as allinformation on authenticity of the works offered forsale. If true, the proposition has consequences forpublic policy. Museums optimize choices among art historicallysignificant authentic paintings distributed asstochastic rare events in the tertiary market for art. Such paintings have few, if any, art historicallyequivalent substitutes, causing the demand for suchworks of art to be extremely inelastic. Museums tendto buy at the top of the information curve; payingprices which exceed market averages for similar art. As a result, society pays the cost of institutionalrisk aversion. In contrast, collectors often purchaseart before all art historical information is complete,and often earn a reward for assuming a risk due toincomplete information (Singer, 1991; Pomerhene, 1994).Collectors who can borrow to accumulate the highestcategory art can consume the services of their artcollection at zero cost.
