Ethical Issues in Supervising Counseling Practitioners

Major ethical issues related to training and supervising counseling practitioners are discussed including transference, dependency, and power in the supervisory relationship, dual relationships, stereotyping, and the imposition of the supervisor's beliefs on the supervisee. Suggestions for lessening the threat of ethical violations are identified.

Librarians' use of usage statistics for journals and e‐books

In September 2010 MPS Limited undertook a short survey of librarians, addressing their use of usage statistics. Over 300 librarians responded. This article covers the findings. 97% of the librarians surveyed use usage statistics in some way. As would be expected, they find COUNTER‐compliant usage statistics invaluable and place their importance above non‐COUNTER‐compliant usage data. They also rely on this information as a major part of the decision‐making process when it comes to purchase and cancellation decisions.

Information Support for Using Open Learning Materials within Engineering Education

This paper reviews some current trends in engineering education in the UK, particularly those towards open and distance learning. Taking as a case-study a recent move to provide relevant and up-to-date course materials in the area of Advanced Manufacturing Technology for undergraduates, the authors provide an account of the process of collaboration between academic and library staff which resulted in the integration of new materials and methods into an existing course. From this experience the authors attempt some generalisations about the roles and systems required for similar approaches to achieve success.
