The purpose of this case-study is to narrate a secondary science teacher’s experience of his professional development (PD)
education and training in innovative technologies (IT) in the context of engaging students in environmental research projects
The sources from which the narrative is derived include (1) the science teacher’s reflective reports during three summer institute
programs and (2) the science teacher’s reflective reports while subsequently engaging students in IT-embedded environmental
research projects in his classroom. The science teacher’s explanations for changes in students’ perception of their IT fluency
illuminate his personal narrative. The science teacher attributed his growth and significant changes in students’ perceptions
of their IT fluency to the following mechanisms: (a) a personal commitment to developing his own and his students’ IT abilities
in the context of doing environmental research projects, and (b) an increase in class time devoted to science education due
to school-time scheduling policy. The study implies that immersive professional development opportunities have the potential
to produce significant increases in students’ perceptions of their IT fluency. 相似文献

In this paper we discuss the role of visual resources, namely Greek Sign Language videos, concept maps and pictures, and their
allocation in a multimedia educational software designed to enhance reading comprehension in deaf children. First, we summarize
research findings from three bodies of literature that informed the design of the software: reading comprehension and deaf
children, the role of visual displays in reading comprehension and multimedia learning theories. In the following part, we
describe the software “See and See” and explain how relevant theory and research regarding visual displays and multimedia
learning has been applied to its design. Finally, we present a pilot evaluation of “See and See” regarding the students’ interaction

This research focuses on use of a triadic teaching approach in a science–technology–society (STS) course designed for future
science teachers for middle schools in Turkey. Forty-three pre-service science teachers were enrolled in a semester-long course
organized around issues students identified and used throughout the semester. The triadic teaching approach includes library-online
searches that lead the students to design and conduct investigations, to carrying out mini-scientific symposia, and to preparing
and conducting poster presentations open to the entire student body and faculty. The results of a 30-item Likert scale, administered
to the students as a pretest and a posttest, indicated that there were significant increases in positive attitudes towards
STS issues from the beginning to the end of the study. Individual interviews were also conducted with the students to determine
the individual effects of each component of the triadic teaching approach on their attitudes towards STS issues. All aspects
of the new approach provided significant contributions to the development of more positive attitudes among the students towards
STS via interviews and on all sub-scales of a survey administered that include: (1) pupil interest in STS issues; (2) teacher
interest in STS issues; (3) general perceptions regarding importance of STS issues.

2 questions were explored: (1) Do observed relations found in Western cultures between specific psychosocial environmental factors and toddlers adaptive behavior resemble the pattern of relations found in a non-Western setting? (2) Does the specificity of relations between environment and performance found in Western cultures also operate in a non-Western culture? Subjects were 153 Egyptian toddlers, 18–30 months of age, and their caregivers. Twice a month between 18 and 30 months toddlers were observed in naturalistic interactions with their caregivers, and measures of caregiver behavior and toddler functioning were coded. Replicating previous results from Western cultures, canonical analysis indicated that caregiver vocal stimulation was positively related to indices of toddler behavioral competence, while nonverbal response to vocalization and physical contact stimulation were negatively related. The salience of sib caregivers was also noted. Particularly for the age period between 24 and 29 months, results indicated specificity of environmental action such that measures of caregiver vocal stimulation were uniquely related to measures of toddler vocalization, while caregiver response to distress was uniquely related to toddler emotionality. The present pattern of results suggests at least some degree of cross-cultural generalizability of environment-development relations and of the specificity model of environmental action. 相似文献

ABSTRACTThis article reports on a pilot study aiming to examine a role-modelling character education project through an Aristotelian framework, by adopting a virtue-led approach. Aristotle famously believed virtues should be taught to children at a young age through habituation, which gradually develops into phronesis-guided virtuosity, and he considered what nowadays is referred to as ‘role modelling’ as having a large influence on children through the emotion of emulation (zēlos). Therefore, the pilot study aims to answer the question to what extent a virtue-led role modelling intervention in character education can influence students’ moral development. The intervention teaches school-appropriate virtues to students in a primary school in Saudi Arabia. While the study is just starting, this article focuses on some pertinent and problematic preliminary questions about conceptual assumptions and research design. 相似文献
