How are leaders integrating the ideology of globalisation in primary school contexts?

This study carried out research focusing on diverse learners, such as pupils who have English as additional language (EAL) in primary schools in the Midlands, England. Essentially, we wanted to know how they are supported to become global learners. Therefore, questions were posed to school leaders on their understanding of the concept of globalisation; how globalisation is developed, supported, monitored and evaluated. Research on the concept of globalisation is contentious, with as many definitions as there are cultural contexts. But the central message is that the movement of a global economy brings with it the potential to make knowledge and information accessible to all. We interviewed senior leaders in primary schools over a period of 3 months and our sampling isopportunistic rather than truly random. The findings suggest the need for strong leadership for embedding globalisation in the curriculum, an enabling team structure, and partnership development locally and globally.     

Quantification of urinary urate with alkylamine glass-bound uricase and arylamine glass-bound peroxidase

Uric acid in urine was analyzed using porcine liver uricase and horseradish peroxidase immobilized on alkylamine and arylamine glass beads (pore diameter 55nm) respectively. The minimum detection limit was 5.0mg/0.1 ml urine. The recovery of added uric acid was 92%. Within and between assay CVS were <1.3% and <5.3% respectively. A good correlation (r=0.93) was found between urinary urate values obtained by a commercial kit method and the present method. The uric acid in 24hr urine of apparently healthy adults and person sufering from various diseases was found to be 450 to 900mg/24hr, 659mg/24hr (range, mean) and 910–1400mg/24hr, 1145 mg/24hr (range, mean) respectively with the present method.     

Binary matrices with specified properties

The binary matrices A which are circulant with one or more of the following properties: (1) A is symmetric, i.e. A = A^T, (2) A is orthogonal, i.e. AA^T = I (mod 2), (3) A has low multiplicative order, i.e. A^m = I, occur often in communication, control and network theory problems. In this paper we construct a number of such matrices. The results are based on the theory of power-residues modulo an odd prime p, and the fact that the algebra of all p × p circulant matrices is isomorphic to the algebra of polynomials modulo (x^p?1).
