This article discusses the results of a qualitative ethnographic study in a secondary school in Greece. The study explored teacher-student classroom interaction in a mixed-ability group in a working-class school in Greece. It also explored the links between the teachers' behaviour in the classroom and their ideas about gender and, to a limited extent, their life experiences. Although the sample was small and there were many variations, the findings of the study suggest that overall teachers behaved differently towards girls and boys. Teachers' general lack of awareness or low level of awareness of gender as an important organising and categorising factor in students' behaviour and generally in schooling, as well as the teachers' tacit assumptions about gender, influenced the way that teachers related to girls and boys in the classroom. Other issues, such as the lack of teachers' training on equal opportunities, the low status of the school and the principal's lack of involvement in the promotion of gender equality in the school, also impact on teacher-student interaction.  相似文献

Beverley Flitton is a PhD student a the University of Hertfordshire, where Julia Buckroyd is Professor of Counselling, and Maria Vassiliou is employed at Durants School, Enfield, as a nursery nurse. In this article, they describe the process of setting up and running a therapeutic group for girls in a school for students with learning difficulties and complex needs in London, England. Six girls, from years 9 and 10, aged 14 to 15, participated in the group. They were offered 23 weeks of group work. The six girls, their teachers and their teaching assistants were interviewed before and after the series of sessions using a semi-structured schedule. These interviews formed a core part of an evaluation of the impact of the therapeutic group and data were also gathered from notes taken in the group sessions. This article describes the issues presented by the girls and their development in the group. Staff reported significant changes in two of the students and noticeable changes in the remaining four. The girls reported an awareness of changes in themselves and Beverley Flitton, Julia Buckroyd and Maria Vassiliou, reflecting on the girls' emotional problems and social development, suggest that they were able to transfer skills gained in the group into other situations.  相似文献

During the last 10 years many higher educational institutions following the ILEA initiatives and equal opportunity (EO) legislation of the mid 1970's, announced they were equal opportunity institutions. This paper questions whether such pronouncements and declared policies have had any more than a marginal effect on the power structures and day to day running of institutions. It proposes that a positive action programme should be adopted to increase the proportion of women lecturers in higher education. More idealistically still, it discusses a transformational model of EO which would challenge the public private divide and democratise institutions. It draws on the experience of equal opportunities initiatives in a number of higher educational institutions and emphasises the importance of understanding resistance to change.  相似文献

本研究采用问卷方法调查了东亚 172 4名青春期女子对自我体型的错误认识和社会性体型焦虑度的实际状况。东亚四城市的青春期女子在实际体型、对体型的自我评价以及她们的理想体型方面的分布状况没有明显差异。 5 4 %的研究对象处于正常体重范围内。但是 ,大约5 5 %的研究对象对自己的体型作了偏大的评价。另一方面 ,福冈 85 .3%的研究对象、大邱 70 .1%的研究对象、台北 4 6 .7%的研究对象以及上海 4 5 .7%的研究对象希望自己具有苗条的身材。青春期女子自我感觉具有肥胖的体型 ,表明了她们怀有社会性体型焦虑。最后 ,在那些具有减肥意向的人群中对体型错误认识的比率和社会性体型焦虑度均较高  相似文献

对甘肃省中、小学体育教学现状进行抽样调查和实证分析 ,结果表明 :甘肃省城乡中、小学基本能正常开设体育课 ;多数学校能实施体育教学大纲 ,具备进度和教案 ,并能按其进行教学 ;多数学校将体育课成绩列为“三好学生”条件之一 ,部分学校列入升学考试科目计入总成绩。“无体育师资”,“无体育经费”和“缺乏体育器材”是农村地区中、小学不能开设体育课的重要原因 ;而城市中、小学则受到片面追求升学率的影响  相似文献

Three samples from a major U.S. metropolitan area are used withina quasi-experimental design to study individuals who contributedmoney to the far right campaign of David Duke to become Governorof Louisiana in 1991. Using mail survey and Census data, contributorsare compared both with their near neighbors and with a probabilitysample of the predominantly white portions of the metropolitanarea. The Duke contributors are spread in what appears to bea nearly random way over the white urban and suburban townsand townships, rather than being clustered together or locatedin a few subculturally distinct places. Those who respondedto our questionnaire—a remarkably high 86 percent of thetarget contributor sample—are also similar demographicallyto their neighbors and to the white cross-section, except forbeing older and more often male. In political and social attitudesand values, the Duke contributors are strikingly different fromthe other two samples in most, though not quite all, respects,but their near neighbors are indistinguishable from the generalwhite population.  相似文献
