Abstract

The problem of the study was to investigate the relationship between maximum strength and muscular endurance; also the relationship between maximum strength and percentage of maximum strength held before and after an extended period of isometric training. The subjects (N = 60) were divided into two equal groups, control and experimental. The experimental group was further divided into two subgroups of high and low strength. The control group was tested for maximum strength and endurance once at the beginning of the experiment and once after 20 days. The subjects in the experimental group were tested for maximum strength and endurance before they embarked on a 20-day period of isometric training. They held tension for 100 sec. in the morning and again in the afternoon. Periodic tests were on the 5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th day. There was a significant relationship between maximum strength and endurance and a negative and generally significant relationship between maximum strength and percentage of maximum strength held.  相似文献

Abstract

The investigation was conducted to determine the relative effectiveness of three different approaches to health instruction at the college level. Each of three groups of students was taught by one instructional approach: problem solving, lecture, or discussion. Analysis of initial and final measurements of health knowledge, health attitudes, and health interests through the covariance technique and t tests indicated that all three approaches were equally effective in the achievement of instructional outcomes.  相似文献

Abstract

The characteristics of three threshold loss agreement indices which reflect the agreement or consistency in assignment to mastery-nonmastery status are reviewed. Special consideration is given to the conditions that determine when proportion of agreement, coefficient kappa or modified kappa is the most appropriate index to use. When marginal proportions are “fixed” and adjustment for chance agreement is desired, coefficient kappa may be appropriate. However, indices of marginal asymmetry and confidence limits should be reported along with kappa. When marginal proportions are “free” to vary, it is suggested that kappa be modified by defining chance agreement as 1/q, whereq is the number of categories. Examples of all indices are illustrated with synthetic data.  相似文献

In social work, it is believed that certain knowledge and skills are learned more effectively through experience than through didactic classroom content. Members of the faculty of a school of social work have developed a Social Action Day to reinforce curriculum and translate into practice material about advocacy and ethical responsibilities for social action; show the breadth of social work practice; and enhance the school's sense of community. The authors share their experience to inspire other social work faculty, so that they are better able to foster student interest and passion for political action that may generate social change.  相似文献

Students in their senior-level capstone strategic management class at an Association of Advance Collegiate Schools of Business-accredited business school analyzed issues facing local companies for their project, rather than studying Fortune 500 companies. Although area small and mid-sized enterprises benefitted from the analysis and students gained valuable experience through the “consulting” project, business reference librarians had to adapt their library orientation for locating business information and identifying resources for the local companies, most of which were privately held. Integrating the library orientation and assistance into the closed loop assessment is discussed. Suggestions for replicating the project as well as areas for future research are included.  相似文献

This paper argues that the current commitment to personalised learning opens up real opportunities for changing the language and practice of literacy teaching as it currently operates in England. We argue that there is a need to seize the opportunities currently on offer, to educate teachers differently and to develop classroom practice and pedagogies that acknowledge the complexities of children's lives and literacies. We draw on evidence from a year-long ethnographic research study, conducted between 2006–2007, of fourteen children and their families. The children attended the same inner city primary school in an area of urban regeneration characterised by high levels of economic deprivation, high crime and many social problems. The resulting evidence suggests that personalising learning becomes a reality when teachers are given space and time to develop their understanding of the uses and meaning of literacy in the communities they serve.  相似文献

Conclusions Collecting, collating, presenting and disseminating information are key success areas for information centers. This is where many organizations either gain or lose competitive advantage. Information not managed professionally and constructively has little value. It remains inaccessible, and its existence unknown. In this sense ILEIA has profiled itself in such a way that it has maintained its capacity to continue the strategic collection of grey literature and to retain a status which has ensured and is recognized as having a special niche in development-orientated publishing and information exchange. ILEIA has been successful in collecting and disseminating information during the 20 years of its existence. The main reasons for this success must be sought in the methodology underlying the editorial approach and the continuous attention that has been given to networking and profiling ILEIA's activities.  相似文献
