The time has come for us to shift the dominant paradigm for schoolbased consultation from a behavioral to an ecobehavioral perspective. Although a thorough examination of this issue is precluded by the space limitations of this article, there is sufficient room to initiate the discussion and suggest that we begin a process of transition by adopting this new mind-set to describe and guide our consultation behaviors. Rather than precipitating a radical break with current practice, an ecobehavioral world view should help direct us toward evolutionary changes that move the field forward without having to sacrifice the wisdom gleaned thus far from our collective past. 相似文献

Progressives teach about many religions, while conservatives favor (often exclusive) instruction into one tradition. This paper reports an experimental study of a possible confound in measures of young children's phoneme awareness — that of global similarity between words. We developed two otherwise identical versions of a test of phoneme invariance (typical item, ‘which starts the same asbeak, bowl orshed?’), one version controlling for global similarity and the other not. We administered both tests to 27 kindergarten children, along with three criterion measures of early literacy skill. Three converging results supported the importance of controlling for global similarity when attempting to measure phoneme invariance: (1) the subjects attained higher scores on the uncontrolled version, and half of those passing this version (11/22), were ‘false positives’ in that they did not pass the controlled version, (2) a metric of global similarity was significantly related to the proportion of children passing an item on both versions, and (3) there was a stronger relation between the controlled version and the criterion literacy measures of spelling and decoding than was found for the uncontrolled version. The issue of language of instruction (LOI) and its effects on education in Tanzanian secondary education has been widely researched since the early 1980s. In 2009, the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training proposed a new education and training policy that allows English to be used as LOI from nursery school to tertiary education. The proposed policy goes against what researchers in this area have recommended over the years. In the light of the proposed policy, the author of this article felt the need to review studies done on LOI in Tanzania from 1974 to date, aiming to eliminate or greatly reduce the negative effects of the policy on education in Tanzania. The purpose of this study was to investigate the perceptual orientation and attitudes toward science of freshman community college students and the relationship of these characteristics toward science achievement. It was found that perceptual orientation (field independence-dependence) was related to attitudes toward science. In addition, it was found that students who were field independent and possessed a positive attitude toward science scored significantly higher on the science achievement test than students who were field dependent and possessed a negative attitude toward science. 相似文献

The present study explored the use of counseling among counselor trainees and the characteristics of consumers and nonconsumers. Approximately 61% of those surveyed (n = 85) reported that they had received counseling, with the majority being mental health counseling trainees. Nonconsumers (n = 54) indicated that they coped with problems in other ways but would consider counseling if they experienced trauma. 相似文献
