The recent development of personal digital collections systems on museum websites has prompted researchers to examine the motivations and expectations of museum visitors as they interact with those systems. Results from an online survey completed by visitors to six different museum websites show that users of personal digital collections systems are primarily motivated by a desire to create simple collections of objects and images, and are less influenced by the more complicated features museums have implemented to encourage user participation. The significance of these findings is explored through a discussion of user expectations and motivations with respect to creating personal digital collections, and an attempt is made to reconcile some of the disparities between the perceptions of survey respondents and the experiences of museum professionals developing and implementing personal digital collections systems. 相似文献
This article presents results from a survey designed to assess the relevance of library and information science (LIS) expertise—here defined as those topics typically, but not exclusively, taught in LIS programs—for museum professionals. The topics covered in this article are information representation, information organization and access, information management, computer technologies, digitization technologies, interactive technologies, information policy, evaluation methods, and collaboration initiatives. An online survey assessed the degree to which museum professionals possess skills in these topics, perform work in these topics, and consider these topics important for future study. The article examines the relative value of each topic for museum professionals and discusses the importance of strengthening relationships between LIS and museum studies by better understanding the relevance of LIS expertise in museums. 相似文献
A Russian, a Cuban, an American, and a layer are seated in the same compartment on a train. The Russian takes a bottle of
vodka out of his luggage, pours some into a glass, drinks it, and firmly states: “In Russia, we have best wodka in the vorld,
nowhere in the vorld you can find wodka as good as one we make in mother Russian. And, we have much of it, so much we can
just throw it away like vater.” That said, the Russian opens the train's window and hurls the vodka out of the train. The
others in the compartment are quite impressed. Then the Cuban removes a box of Havana cigars from his luggage, takes one,
lights it, and begins to smoke. “In Kooba, we have de best cigars of de world, habanas, nowhere in de world are dere such
many and good cigars, and we have much of dem also, such many dat we can just trow dem away.” Making that bold statement,
the Cuban sends the box of Havanas the way of the vodka. Once again, the compartment's occupants are quite impressed. Then,
not to be outdone, the American abruptly stands up, opens the window wide, and throws out the lawyer. 相似文献
The way in which bacterial communities colonize flow in porous media is of importance, but basic knowledge on the dynamic of these phenomena is still missing. The aim of this work is to develop microfluidic experiments in order to progress in the understanding of bacteria capture in filters and membranes. PDMS microfluidic devices mimicking filtration processes have been developed to allow a direct dynamic observation of bacteria across 10 or 20 μm width microchannels. When filtered in such devices, bacteria behave surprisingly: Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa or Staphylococcus aureus accumulate in the downstream zone of the filter and form large streamers which oscillate in the flow. In this study, streamer formation is put in evidence for bacteria suspension in non nutritive conditions in less than 1 h. This result is totally different from the one observed in same system with “inert” particles or dead bacteria which are captured in the bottleneck zone and are accumulated in the upstream zone. Observations within different flow geometries (straight channels, connected channels, and staggered row pillars) show that the bacteria streamer development is influenced by the flow configuration and, particularly by the presence of tortuosity within the microchannels zone. These results are discussed at the light of 3D flow simulations. In confined systems and in laminar flow, there is secondary flow (z-velocities) superimposed to the streamwise motion (in xy plane). The presence of the secondary flow in the microsystems has an effect on the bacterial adhesion. A scenario in three steps is established to describe the formation of the streamers and to explain the positive effect of tortuous flow on the development kinetics. 相似文献
The Next Generation Science Standards support understanding of the nature of science as it is practiced and experienced in the real world through interconnected concepts to be imbedded within scientific practices and crosscutting concepts. This study explored how fourth and fifth grade elementary students’ views of nature of science change when they engage in a technology-enhanced, scientific inquiry-oriented curriculum that takes place across formal and informal settings. Results suggest that student engagement in technology-enhanced inquiry activities that occur in informal and formal settings when supported through explicit instruction focused on metacognitive and social knowledge construction can improve elementary students’ understanding of nature of science.
