This paper presents (i) a purpose-built conceptual model for professional learning and (ii) a leadership framework designed
to support a large-scale project involving diverse sites across the state of Queensland, Australia. The project had as its
focus teacher-capacity building and ways to improve literacy and numeracy outcomes for students at educational disadvantage.
It involved 15 intersectoral clusters and brought together Middle School teachers, principals, curriculum leaders and management
personnel from Education Queensland, the Association of Independent Schools Inc., and the Catholic Education Commission. In
the paper we discuss how the project worked at the interface of research and practice. Further, we discuss how professional
learning was facilitated by a multi-layered approach that acknowledged the importance of research-based learning, curriculum
and pedagogic leadership by principals, and strong opportunities for teacher agency through cross-cluster and intersectoral
collaboration. In conclusion, we invite readers to consider how the approach represents a radical new way to think about what

Five experiments are reported in which rats were given CS-shock pairings and then permitted, in the absence of shock, to perform a hurdle-jump response that led to CS offset. In Experiment 1–4, the animals failed to learn the required response. Although several procedural variations were employed, the experimental groups continued to perform no better than backward-conditioned controls. In Experiment 5, some animals were punished for remaining immobile during a single trial at the start of hurdle-jump training. These animals performed significantly better than nonpunished controls and better than any group in Experiments 1–4. The results support the idea that the major role of the CS in escape-from-fear situations is to activate an innate motivational system which chooses between the species-specific defense reactions of freezing and fleeing. 相似文献

Enthusiasm for interventions designed to improve organizational quality has far outpaced interest in assessing their effects. This article describes two procedures for systematic quality assessment. First, distributional assessment provides a way to monitor individual, group or unit performance by establishing real and maximum‐feasible parameters. Second, a cost assessment system based on utility analysis provides a way to assign dollar values and benefits to quality interventions targeted at specific jobs and job functions. Both procedures are described and illustrated. They resolve a long‐standing problem with quality assessment, arising from the difficulty of accounting for situational influences which can constrain the effects of interventions designed to improve organizational performance, product or service delivery, and customer satisfaction. 相似文献
