As United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Stevenson, with the assistance of his staff, analyzed and prepared to address three widely varied audiences: the primary audience, his fellow diplomats; his secondary audience, representatives of the world press and the radio and television media; and a spontaneous and ever‐changing group of daily visitors. To influence these audiences and to seek the widest level of support and the least antagonism for American policies, Stevenson had to concern himself with their functions, attitudes, and loyalties.  相似文献

Evaluating the effectiveness of an information commons has been discussed in many venues since the concept was first implemented. The Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University confronted this same struggle. After two years of activity, the information commons had not been assessed to see whether the purposes for which it was planned were being fulfilled. This paper describes its first assessment. Measuring the number of groups who used the information commons over the period of two years, the assessment showed that indeed the commons is being used to a great extent for group work, one of the goals set for the creation of the information commons.  相似文献

This paper reports on the setting up of the Research Information Network (RIN) and its work since 2005 in relation to scholarly communications and open access. A key aim has been to help in finding ways to ensure that—as the activities, interests and expectations of all who are involved in scholarly communications change in fundamental and disruptive fashion—the UK research base is supported with effective arrangements for handling and communicating the results of research. The RIN has sought to operate in collaboration with all the key groups of stakeholders, from the research, funding, library and publisher communities. The results of studies of funders’ policies, of the available evidence relating to scholarly journal publishing in the United Kingdom, and of researcher behaviour in finding and using open access and other information resources are described. The process leading to the publication of a statement setting out key principles for the scholarly communications process that has been endorsed by the key UK representative bodies for the publishing, the library and information, and the research funding communities is analysed.  相似文献
