Managing personal information such as to-dos and contacts has become our daily routines, consuming more time than needed. Existing PIM tools require extensive involvement of human users. This becomes a problem in using mobile devices due to their physical constraints. To address the limitations of traditional PIM tools, we propose a model of mobile PIM agent (PIMA) that aims to improve PIM on mobile devices through natural language interface and application integration. We conducted a user study to evaluate PIMA empirically with prototype systems. The results show that mobile PIMA improved perceived usefulness, ease-of-use, and efficiency of PIM on mobile devices, which in turn accounted for positive attitude and intention to use the system. The findings of this study provide suggestions for designing and developing PIM applications on mobile devices. 相似文献

The last 20 years have seen a marked increase in co-operation among Saudi medical libraries, with inter-library loan service at the forefront. This is an investigation of the current situation of co-operative inter-lending and resource sharing among medical libraries in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The study discusses various methods for providing inter-library loan service including direct inter-lending, lending through union catalogs, and centralized lending. Other resource sharing activities are also described. The case study methodology was employed. Documents, interviews, and personal conversations were utilized to provide needed information. A number of medical libraries were chosen, and their inter-library loan requests for the year 1995 were thoroughly investigated. Results are analyzed, and some concluding remarks for future action are presented. 相似文献

Following the events of 9/11, many misconceptions entered the policy-making platform with regard to the need for education reforms in the Muslim world. Based upon Western cultural and societal norms and increased scepticism of the role of religion in violence, these assumptions have triggered a strong wave of calls for a top-down approach to reform formal state schools in predominantly Muslim countries, These calls often meet with resistance at national and community levels. This article seeks to examine these misconceptions and investigate why educational reform efforts through top-down frameworks which are especially motivated by countering violent extremism or terrorism have had only limited success. Many major international intergovernmental organisations, non-governmental organisations and governments have invested time and effort into education measures aiming to build peace and coexistence in Muslim countries, but they have been unable to build a relationship of trust with community leaders and school authorities. The authors argue that the main reason for defiance is reformers’ failure to closely examine the cultural context of their chosen setting and work with existing tools and local institutions. Illustrating their point with a case study of an intervention carried out in informal Qur’anic schools in Niger, West Africa, the authors offer an alternative method which fosters changes from within. They argue that this model has a better chance of sustainability and could thus be used as the basis for future interventions. 相似文献

This study used qualitative and quantitative approaches to evaluate the effectiveness of self‐learning modules (SLMs) developed to facilitate and individualize students' learning of basic medical sciences. Twenty physiology and nineteen microanatomy SLMs were designed with interactive images, animations, narrations, and self‐assessments. Of 41 medical students, 40 students voluntarily completed a questionnaire with open‐ended and closed‐ended items to evaluate students' attitudes and perspectives on the learning value of SLMs. Closed‐ended items were assessed on a five‐point Likert scale (5 = high score) and the data were expressed as mean ± standard deviation. Open‐ended questions further evaluated students' perspectives on the effectiveness of SLMs; student responses to open‐ended questions were analyzed to identify shared patterns or themes in their experience using SLMs. The results of the midterm examination were also analyzed to compare student performance on items related to SLMs and traditional sessions. Students positively evaluated their experience using the SLMs with an overall mean score of 4.25 (SD ± 0.84). Most students (97%) indicated that the SLMs improved understanding and facilitated learning basic science concepts. SLMs were reported to allow learner control, to help in preparation for subsequent in‐class discussion, and to improve understanding and retention. A significant difference in students' performance was observed when comparing SLM‐related items with non‐SLM items in the midterm examination (P < 0.05). In conclusion, the use of SLMs in an integrated basic science curriculum has the potential to individualize the teaching and improve the learning of basic sciences. 以SD大鼠为实验动物,通过8 w的高能饲料摄入和4 w的运动锻炼后,检测其血清总蛋白、白蛋白含量,外周血CD3 细胞数量、CD4 、CD8 T细胞百分比的变化,来研究适度运动锻炼对高能饲料摄入动物免疫功能的影响。结果显示:适度运动锻炼明显提高CD3 T细胞数量,使CD4 T细胞百分比从55.2%-56.6%迅速上升到62.6%-63.0%,使高能饲料摄入组的CD8 T细胞百分比从56.2%极显著地下降到42.2%,从而使运动组的CD4 /CD8 的比值(1.49±0.10)显著高于对照组(1.01±0.07),表明适度运动锻炼具有显著促进正相免疫调节的作用。 相似文献

Previous experimental research that has found that college students exposed to a clip of the popular Comedy Central program entitled The Colbert Report were unable to distinguish its satirical intent from its stated content. To further investigate whether the show's viewers consume The Colbert Report as a satire of conservative television or construe it as a sincere expression of conservative sentiment, the present study examines the content of the program's online discussion forum. Forum posts reflect a diversity of responses to Stephen Colbert and The Colbert Report, many of them recognizing the ironic qualities of the show and its host. 相似文献

Along with the significant development of information and communication technologies (ICTSs), an incredible number of mobile applications have become available. Hence, the main purpose of the current study is to investigate the use and acceptance of the ‘Mobile Information System’ developed and implemented by University of Jordan, which Known as (Mobile Student Information System). Data were obtained from 275 undergraduate students of University of Jordan via questionnaire to test the ‘Mobile Services Acceptance Model’ using Structural Equation Model. The results reveal that user acceptance of mobile information system services is largely affected by trust, perceived security, perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. Findings also show that context of applications is a strong motivational factor of perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness, which then significantly affects user intention to use mobile information system. While, the personal characteristics and features do not have effect on user intentions. Both theoretical and practical implications of the study’s findings are discussed. 相似文献
