The study examined African American, Asian American, and European American college students’ previous direct and indirect
experiences of seeking professional psychological services and related attitudes. Survey data were collected from 254 European
American, 182 African American and 82 Asian American college students. Results revealed that fewer African American and Asian
American college students had sought professional psychological services, knew someone who had sought psychological services,
and knew a close person who was diagnosed with a psychological disorder, relative to European American students. Furthermore,
African American and Asian American participants showed less favorable attitudes on a variety of help-seeking attitudes, compared

Between 1968 and 1973 the Taiwanese government undertook the most extensive expansion on record of the public junior high school system in Taiwan. This study analyzes the effects of the 1968 education reform and subsequent high school expansion on gender disparities in employment generally, as well in different sectors and classes of employment. Our results show that the education expansion exerted a major influence on the reallocation of female workers across various sectors and types of employment, thereby contributing to the efficient reallocation of females in the Taiwan economy. 相似文献

At the close of World War II, Japan’s ouster from Malaya led to the resumption of British control and a new outlook toward political independence. Higher education would play a central role in this complex transition, where the forces of decolonization and nation-building converged with drives toward both interethnic competition and multiethnic cooperation. These tensions stimulated a multiplicity of new rhetorics and new networks for universities and university students. This paper uses the framework of governance to uncover the contrasting rhetorics and networks produced by postwar Singapore’s new universities. By examining their structures and mechanisms of governance, the paper demonstrates how the sudden catapulting of university education to a crucial socio-political position redefined the intersections between education, language, culture, and nation. In doing so, it reveals that these redefinitions forecasted contemporary discourse and mechanisms in higher education. 相似文献

This study first offers a defence of the view that natural science has transcultural intellectual characteristics relevant to its educational purposes and examines those characteristics under their ontic, epistemic, and value‐related aspects. While the epistemic domain has been most prominent in relation to the science curriculum and its reform, it is the ontic stance of science that is its most distinctive characteristic. Science stands in an attenuated relationship to forms of human valuing, but curriculum reform has attempted to bring value‐related, and particularly ethical, matters into its remit. Science curriculum reform can be understood as an intellectual repositioning in relation to these three domains. This study relates this repositioning to the educational purposes of science, focusing particularly on a tension between liberal and instrumental purposes. Reform of the science curriculum is most coherently based on its distinctive ontic and epistemic characteristics, within a broader curricular framework. 相似文献
