Although the proportion of network prime‐time programs with sexual images decreased somewhat during the 1990's, the overall message about sex did not change. Sex is often found in a humorous context—four often programs include humorous sexual references. Sex is most often found in dramas, followed closely by situation comedies. Moreover, one‐fifth of prime‐time programs have sexual content that is categorized as gratuitous (unwarranted) to the plot. Viewers do not seem to favor programs with sexual content — there was no support for the hypothesis that programs with sexual content would have higher Nielsen ratings than programs without sexual content. 相似文献

Some librarians embrace discovery tools while others refuse to use them. This lack of consensus can have consequences for student learning when there is inconsistent use, especially in large-scale instruction programs. The authors surveyed academic librarians whose institutions have a discovery tool and who teach information literacy classes in order to identify barriers to using them and to develop strategies to effectively integrate them into instruction. In this article we employ Sizers’ (1999) school- and classroom-based lenses for observation and apply them to the events and interactions that teacher education students see during school-based field experiences. Our data include online reflections and discussions among 33 students enrolled in a teacher education program at a large, public university. Our findings show that participants engaged in a complex series of framing(s) and reframing(s) to make sense of their experience. Further, we show how computer-mediated communication tools can promote framing and reflection among preservice teachers and enhance the face-to-face instruction university teacher educators provide. 相似文献

The models presented here posit a complex relationship between efficacy in student engagement and intent-to-leave that is mediated by in-class variables of instructional management, student behavior stressors, aspects of burnout, and job satisfaction. Using data collected from 631 teachers, analyses provided support for the two models that predicted teachers' intent-to-leave. To enhance generalizability, this study also tested whether the structural coefficients were invariant across teacher gender and grade level. With one exception, the models appeared largely invariant across gender and grade level. Abstract The purpose of this study was to investigate the functions of the gluteus minimus and gluteus medius muscles through the use of fine-wire electromyography. Electrical activity of the gluteus minimus and gluteus medius muscles of 13 subjects, six females and seven males, was recorded during a series of basic anatomical movements. Results showed that the gluteus minimus functioned as an abductor, medical rotator, extensor, and in some cases a flexor of the thigh. The gluteus medius functioned as an abductor, extensor, and medical rotator in six of the 13 subjects. It also exhibited some activity during flexion in five of the subjects tested. 相似文献
