AbstractThis panel presentation focuses on the complex relationship between Asian/Asian Canadians and Canada’s Indigenous peoples (First Nation, Meti, Innuit). In spite of many commonalities the two sets of communities share while being racialized as “visible minorities” with histories of oppression and exclusion, the former are still settlers on the land of the latter, and, along with Canada’s settlers of European origin, must take part in responding to the “Calls to Action” rising out of the 2015 report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. 相似文献

Ancient Chinese mathematics has been the focus of many research studies and scholarly works from a historical perspective.
However, no move has been made to investigate its role in the teaching and learning of mathematics. This pilot study examined
the effects of an Ancient Chinese Mathematics Enrichment Programme (ACMEP) on the academic achievement of second year students
from a secondary school in Singapore—a strand of a principal study which had the intent of investigating possible roles of
ancient Chinese mathematics in the Singapore secondary school mathematics curriculum. Analysis of covariance was used to examine
the difference in mean scores on a variety of formal assessments in mathematics between students who participated in the ACMEP
and those who did not. In addition, scores on formal assessments of other relevant subjects were analyzed to further investigate

This paper presents a numerical study of DC-biased AC-electrokinetic (DC-biased ACEK) flow over a pair of symmetrical electrodes. The flow mechanism is based on a transverse conductivity gradient created through incipient Faradaic reactions occurring at the electrodes when a DC-bias is applied. The DC biased AC electric field acting on this gradient generates a fluid flow in the form of vortexes. To understand more in depth the DC-biased ACEK flow mechanism, a phenomenological model is developed to study the effects of voltage, conductivity ratio, channel width, depth, and aspect ratio on the induced flow characteristics. It was found that flow velocity on the order of mm/s can be produced at higher voltage and conductivity ratio. Such rapid flow velocity is one of the highest reported in microsystems technology using electrokinetics. 相似文献

From the group movement of the bed load within the bottom layer, details of the nonlinear dynamic characteristics of bed load movement are discussed in this paper. Whether the sediment is initiated into motion cor-responds to whether the constant term in the equation is equal to zero. If constant term is zero and no dispersive force is considered, the equation represents the traditional Shields initiation curve, and if constant term is zero with-out the dispersive force being considered, then a new Shields curve which is much lower than the traditional one is got, The fixed point of the equation corresponds to the equilibrium sediment transport of bed load. In the mutation analysis, we have found that the inflection point is the demarcation point of breaking. In theory, the breaking point corresponds to the dividing boundary line, across which the bed form changes from flat bed to sand ripple or sand dune. Compared with the experimental data of Chatou Hydraulic Lab in France, the conclusions are verified. 相似文献

We incorporated clay modeling into gross anatomy and neuro‐anatomy courses to help students understand cross‐sectional anatomy. By making clay models, cutting them and comparing cut surfaces to CT and MR images, students learned how cross‐sectional two‐dimensional images were created from three‐dimensional structure of human organs. Most students in a clay modeling group responded positively to this approach, and their average score on CT examination was higher than that of a group that did not use clay models. Clay modeling appears to be a useful supplement to conventional anatomy or radiologic anatomy education. It can be applied to any part of human body, and its effectiveness will be greater when a more complicated understanding of cross‐sectional anatomy is required. This article proposes a computer-mediated intersensory learning model as an alternative to traditional instructional approaches
for students with learning disabilities (LDs) in the inclusive classroom. Predominant practices of classroom inclusion today
reflect the six principles of zero reject, nondiscriminatory evaluation, appropriate education, least restrictive environment,
procedural due process, and parental and student participation. These practices guide the amended Individuals with Disabilities
Education Act (IDEA) of 2004. For nearly 35 years the act has championed for the rights of children with disabilities. The

Microfluidic devices for studying heterotypic cell-cell interactions and tissue specimen cultures under controlled microenvironments 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Microfluidic devices allow for precise control of the cellular and noncellular microenvironment at physiologically relevant length- and time-scales. These devices have been shown to mimic the complex in vivo microenvironment better than conventional in vitro assays, and allow real-time monitoring of homotypic or heterotypic cellular interactions. Microfluidic culture platforms enable new assay designs for culturing multiple different cell populations and∕or tissue specimens under controlled user-defined conditions. Applications include fundamental studies of cell population behaviors, high-throughput drug screening, and tissue engineering. In this review, we summarize recent developments in this field along with studies of heterotypic cell-cell interactions and tissue specimen culture in microfluidic devices from our own laboratory. 相似文献

Abstract This article addresses the dilemma faced by religious and theological educators committed to a feminist, liberative pedagogy when teaching learners in the church whose Confucian upbringing has socialized them into different means of instruction. After a brief sketch of the Confucian ethos that permeates the life of such persons and communities in present‐day North America, the article examines the pedagogical practices of Confucius/Kongzi, traces the historical development of Confucianism, and suggests how we might live and teach in the tension of what appears to be two extremes of pedagogical practice.
