傣族传统体育的水文化特征探源

本文从人类学的角度,采用文献资料、田野考察和矛盾分析的方法,对傣族传统体育的文化因子进行了比较全面、深刻的研究后发现:傣族体育具有浓厚的“水”文化特质,这种文化特质孕育于底蕴深厚的傣族水文化圈。而这种源流与中华民族“上善若水、厚德载物”的文化品格又不谋而合。

Identification of rice seed varieties using neural network

A digital image analysis algorithm based color and morphological features was developed to identify the six varieties (ey7954, syz3, xs1 1, xy5968, xy9308, z903) rice seeds which are widely planted in Zhejiang Province. Seven color and fourteen morphological features were used for discriminant analysis. Two hundred and forty kernels used as the training data set and sixty kernels as the test data set in the neural network used to identify rice seed varieties. When the model was tested on the test data set,the identification accuracies were 90.00％, 88.00％, 95.00％, 82.00％, 74.00％, 80.00％ for ey7954, syz3, xsl 1, xy5968, xy9308,z903 respectively.

Molecular modeling: A powerful tool for drug design and molecular docking

Molecular modeling has become a valuable and essential tool to medicinal chemists in the drug design process. Molecular modeling describes the generation, manipulation or representation of three-dimensional structures of molecules and associated physico-chemical properties. It involves a range of computerized techniques based on theoretical chemistry methods and experimental data to predict molecular and biological properties. Depending on the context and the rigor, the subject is often referred to as ‘molecular graphics’, ‘molecular visualizations’, ‘computational chemistry’, or ‘computational quantum chemistry’. The molecular modeling techniques are derived from the concepts of molecular orbitals of Hückel, Mullikan and ‘classical mechanical programs’ of Westheimer, Wiberg and Boyd.     

Repertoires of collective action in an “IT City”: Urban civil society negotiations of offline and online spaces in Bangalore

This paper examines the ways in which two Internet-based civil society groups, Hasiru Usiru and Praja, negotiate online and offline spaces of collective action in Bangalore, India’s “IT City.” Based on ethnographic research, the study extends collective action theory through an examination of communicative interactions and experiences of urban civil society actors in a developing country. The paper highlight factors that impede and support collective actions, including attitudes toward the Internet as a tool for democratic engagement, ideological motivations, and perceptions of identity and membership, among others. Such a line of inquiry is significant in highlighting the possibilities of ICTs for collective action, while simultaneously avoiding the tendency to inflate and overestimate their capacity to produce social change.

E T Bell, the famous author of ‘Men of Mathematics’, has described mathematics as the ‘Queen of Arts and Servant of Science’. What he meant is that mathematics serves science by entering into the picture as soon as a proper mathematical model is set up by the scientist, and then after a purely mathematical analysis of the model, the final mathematical step is interpreted scientifically. The purpose of the present article is to convince the readers that sometimes the roles of science and mathematics are reversed, and a mathematical problem is interpreted as a physics problem; the laws of physics are utilized for a physical analysis, and the final result of the physical analysis is interpreted mathematically. We shall illustrate this by means of few examples.
