Purpose: The aim of the paper is to explore how advisors’ relational and professional competence influences inter-subjectivity and farmers’ perceptions of farm visits in a setting where advisors have formal power.Methodology: Advisors from the dairy company Tine, which is owned by farmers in collaboration, visit farmers at least once a year. The aim of the visit is to assist farmers in managing the farm and to control the production conditions in the cowshed. In a case study, we attended 10 such mandatory advisor visits and interviewed both farmers and advisors.Findings: Together with advisor style, our findings show that the power relation leaves room for advisors to define their roles widely, ranging from inspector to coach. Advisors have different perceptions of what their jobs are and when they have done a good job. These differences determine the degree of inter-subjectivity and how satisfied farmers are with visits. Furthermore, advisors’ relational and professional competencies are crucial for achieving high inter-subjectivity and satisfied farmers.Theoretical implications: This paper contributes to the theory by identifying factors that influence farmers’ perceptions of advisor visits, as well as by showing the importance of the advisor’s relational and professional competence in a setting where they have formal power.Practical implications: Partly as an outcome of this study, Tine has started a process to separate the control function from farm visits. Aims: Exercise combined with adipose tissue lipolytic inhibition augments intramuscular lipid and glycogen use in type 2 diabetes patients. The present study investigates the impact of adipose tissue lipolytic inhibition during exercise on subsequent postprandial glycemic control in type 2 diabetes patients.Methods: Fourteen male type 2 diabetes patients (age 65?±?2 years, HbA1c 6.7?±?0.1% (50?±?2?mmol/mol)) participated in a double-blind placebo-controlled randomized cross-over study in which subjects performed endurance-type exercise after being administered 250?mg of a nicotinic acid analogue (acipimox; ACP) or a placebo (PLA). A control experiment was included in which no exercise was performed (CON).Results: Sixty minutes of endurance-type exercise (at 45% Wpeak) did not significantly lower circulating plasma glucose and insulin excursions in PLA when compared with CON (P?=?.300). Acipimox administration strongly reduced circulating plasma FFA concentrations during exercise (P?.001). Circulating plasma glucose and insulin excursions were substantially lower during 7.5?h of recovery from exercise (i.e. postprandial) in ACP when compared with either CON (P?=?.041 and P?=?.002, respectively) or PLA (P?=?.009 and P?=?.001, respectively).Conclusions: Collectively, exercise with adipose tissue lipolytic inhibition reduces postprandial blood glucose and insulin excursions and, as such, further improves glycemic control in male type 2 diabetes patients. 相似文献

This article explores an international week in a Norwegian primary school from the perspective of the different participants. Such international weeks are typically organized in connection with the United Nations Day, to contribute towards the school’s aims of inclusion and social justice. Whereas research literature has been critical towards such weeks, using terms such as “exotification” and “hall-way multiculturalism,” there has been little research on international weeks from the participants’ perspectives. This qualitative case study of a single week both confirms and challenges the research literature’s critical stance. On the one hand, these weeks may seem to be only “happenings”; on the other hand, they potentially promote critical reflection about cultural identities, connecting schools and local communities. 相似文献

We studied the emergence of biotechnology in Turku, Finland. First, we analysed it as a result of the interaction between the city and its national and international environment, focusing on the city’s industrial policy as the mediator. Second, we diagnosed the construction of BioCity, the first biotechnology centre building of Turku, as a key event: the conceptualisation and construction of BioCity required a new kind of collaboration between the city administration, the universities and various commercial actors. The widespread popularity of programs for first-year students is due, in large part, to studies showing that participation
in first-year programs is significantly related to students’ academic success. Because students choose to participate in first-year
programs, self-selection effects prevent researchers from making causal claims about the outcomes of those programs. The present
research examined the effects on first-semester grades of students participating in themed learning communities at a research
university in the Midwest. Results indicated that membership in themed learning communities was positively associated with
higher grade point averages, even after controlling for entering ability, application date, gender, and first-generation/low-income
status. However, when instrumental variables were introduced to account for self-selection, the effects of themed learning
communities on grades were not statistically significant. The results have implications for campus leaders and assessment
practitioners who are working to develop methods for understanding the effects of programs designed to enhance the undergraduate

This study provides basic information about how Norwegian nature preschools differ from other Norwegian preschools and how they organize their daily activities. Fifty-six nature preschools and 52 other preschools were included in the study. A total of 106 headmasters and 98 pedagogical leaders filled out questionnaires about the characteristics of their preschool and the characteristics of their preschool’s outdoor activities. Two women and four men from nature preschools were interviewed about organizing a nature preschool. Most nature preschools are private and have less children and staff than other preschools. Nature preschools have more reference areas in nature and visit these areas more frequently than other preschools. Nature preschools spend a large amount of time in nature and have routines and rules that allow the children a significant amount of trust. 相似文献
