This paper describes an attempt to develop a strategy for encouraging the effective utilisation of broadcast resources in pre‐service teacher training. A number of conditions that affect such effective use by staff or departments within Colleges of Education are identified. The paper then proceeds to outline the strategy adopted in mounting two exercises in Scottish Colleges of Education in an attempt to provide, for College staff, a focus of attention on the value of educational broadcasting in the pre‐service education of teachers. The first exercise described concerns the Primary Education Department in Moray House College of Education and the second, a number of Secondary Departments in Aberdeen College of Education. The value of the exercises is commented on, and the conclusion is reached that staff in Colleges of Education would benefit greatly from similar exercises mounted by the Colleges themselves. 相似文献

This paper gives a focussed summary of good practice taken primarily from engineers who are responsible for teaching topics related to systems and control. This engineering specialisation allows the paper to give some degree of focus in the discussions around laboratories, software and assessment, although naturally many of the conclusions are generic. A key intention is to provide a summary document or survey paper which can be used by academics as a start point in studies of what is effective in the discipline. This three-year study focuses on 42 pre-service teachers’ perspectives on integrating literacy into their content area teaching. Pre-service teachers described time as an influential factor shaping their teaching practices, and, we found, that perceptions of time influenced pre-service teachers’ reported ability and willingness to plan for and enact the implementation of literacy strategies as part of content area lessons. While we noted a number of factors related to time, we were particularly drawn to three time-related factors that signified for pre-service teacher participants’ active roles and agency in how they were enacted in the classroom. Identifying temporal concerns about curriculum, learner response to literacy practices, and use of classroom time to scaffold learning allowed us to specify aspects of participants’ pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) development as well as facets of limited PCK growth. Using time as a theoretical lens to view pre-service teachers’ accounts of literacy practices, we suggest, provides insights into their PCK, specifically indicators of stasis and growth, and understanding about pre-service teacher resistance or acceptance to the infusion of literacy into content area teaching. 相似文献

Objective: To examine the relationship between regular game-related caffeine consumption on sleep after an evening Super Rugby game. Methods: Twenty elite rugby union players wore a wrist-activity monitor to measure sleep for three days before, three days after and on the night of an evening Super Rugby game (19:00–21:00). Players ingested caffeine as they would normally (i.e. before and sometimes during a game) and saliva samples were collected before (17:00) and after (21:30) the game for caffeine concentration. Results: Compared to the nights leading up to the game, on the night of the game, players went to bed 3?h later (23:08?±?66?min vs 02:11?±?114?min; p?.001) and had 1:30?hh:mm less sleep (5:54?±?2:59 vs 8:02?±?1:24 hh:mm; p?.05) and four players did not sleep after the game. Post-game caffeine saliva concentrations were greater than pre-game levels in 17 players (Pre-game 0.40 µg/mL vs Post-game 2.77 µg/mL; p?.001). The increase in caffeine saliva concentrations was moderately associated with an increase in sleep latency (p?.05), a decrease in sleep efficiency (p?.05), and a trend for a decrease in sleep duration (p?=?.06) on game night. Conclusion: Caffeine consumption before a Super Rugby game markedly increases post-game saliva caffeine levels. This may contribute to the observed 3.5?h delay in time at sleep onset and the 1.5?h reduction in sleep duration on the night of the game.
