Distributed cooperative controller design considering guidance loop and impact angle

This paper presents an integrated distributed cooperative guidance and control scheme for multiple missiles to attack a single target simultaneously at desired impact angles. The scheme is divided into two parts: individual part and cooperative part. For the individual part, partial integrated guidance and control method is adopted to generate the elevator deflection (which is a realistic control input) to ensure that the missiles fly along their respective desired line of sight and hit the target; this is in contrast to previous works which analyze only the engagement dynamics and use missile accelerations as the control input, however, the proposed controller also considers the missile dynamics, thus enabling the implementation of an autopilot. For the cooperative part, using only information from adjacent missiles, the proposed distributed cooperative controller can make all missiles hit the target simultaneously. Hence in this scheme, each missile can hit the target at desired angles and at the same time, thus achieving salvo attack. Simulations are performed to verify the effectiveness of the scheme.

Stochastic error simulation method of fiber optic gyros based on performance indicators

Gyro simulation is an important process of inertial navigation theory research, with the major difficulty being the stochastic error modeling. One commonly used stochastic model for a fiber optic gyro (FOG) is a Gaussian white (GW) noise plus a first order Markov process. The model parameters are usually obtained by using time series analysis methods or the Allan variance method through FOG static experiment. However, in a real life situation, a FOG may not be used. In this paper, a simulation method is proposed for estimating the stochastic errors of FOG. When using this method, the model parameters are set based on performance indicators, which are chosen as the angle random walk (ARW) and bias stability. During the research, the ARW and bias stability indicators of the GW noise and the first order Markov process are analyzed separately. Their analytical expressions are derived to reveal the relation between the model parameters and performance indicators. In order to verify the theory, a large number of simulations were carried out. The results show that the statistical performance indicators of the simulated signals are consistent with the theory. Furthermore, a simulation of a VG951 FOG is designed in this research. The Allan variance curve of the simulated signal is in agreement with the real one.

A cross-cultural investigation of teachers’ and reporting officers’ self-ratings on teaching and leadership skills across Singapore and Bahrain

Self-rating bias is particularly likely in organizational behavior research as individuals tend to inflate their expertise, skills and character. This study aims to examine how two culturally diverse groups of teachers and their reporting officers respond to self-ratings of their own teaching skills and leadership skills respectively. It is posited that such response may be culturally based. To ensure validity of comparisons, analyses were done using linear Rasch measures in logits rather than the non-linear raw scores. No significant differences were found between the perceptions of Singaporean teachers and their reporting officers on teaching and leadership skills. The Bahraini data however revealed teachers’ perceptions of own teaching skills were significantly higher than that of their reporting officers. The opposite is true for the Reporting officers’ perceptions of our leadership skills. Bahraini teachers’ perceptions of their own teaching skills were also found to be significantly higher than that of their Singaporean counterparts. The findings support the notion that individuals’ thinking and behavior is influenced by how they process social and cultural information.
