Having a vision for the future is an essential, yet elusive, part of day care management. For busy administrators, planning
for the years ahead is often a low priority due to the day-to-day emergencies which take precedent. However, this can be accomplished
in an effective manner through the process of strategic planning. Unlike long-term planning, completed by a few administrators
in isolation and based on current trends, strategic planning allows all those involved in the child care center—board members,
director, staff, volunteers, and parents—to participate in the process of constructing a future for the child care center

Many indicators of per-pupil expenditure inequality vary in response to changes in enrollment patterns as well as in expenditure patterns. Enrollment-compensated indicators of inequality should be used in making prereform, postreform estimates of the impact of school finance reforms. However, neither enrollment-compensated nor uncompensated indicators reveal any short-run impact in a case study of the 1975 New Jersey reform. Despite this lack of change registered by the static indicators, a substantial proportion of districts are found to be mobile, in the sense of moving at least two expenditure deciles over the study period. This paper tells the story of the multi-layered translational process of the Drug Resistance Strategies Project. The Drug Resistance Strategies Project provides an exemplar of translational scholarship, translating adolescent narratives about their substance use experiences into an efficacious, substance abuse prevention middle school curriculum. The curriculum, called keepin' it REAL, was developed using the principle of cultural grounding and translational performances and has been found to reduce adolescent substance use. This paper presents some of the findings of a naturalistic study of a first year university biology laboratory. We report
on the affective outcomes for a field trip and a practical exercise that incorporated innovations aimed at increasing the
scientific realism and students' responsibility in the learning process. Concern with assessment procedures and a perceived
lack of teaching support dominated outcomes for students. Feelings of confusion, lack of satisfaction and hostility were evoked.
Recognition of the need to foster greater student input into the learning process is commended, but this paper raises issues
about the strategies utilised.
