The purpose of the article is to discuss and reflect upon a process of building relationships and conducting community consultations to co-create a relevant community-based participatory research agenda exploring Indigenous youth activity-promoting programming. Four consultations were conducted with approximately 30 community members in Edmonton, Alberta to relevantly and respectfully engage Indigenous Peoples and community members in discussions about Indigenous youth activity-promoting programming. A research question was created from the community consultations to inform relevant knowledge generation. A research agenda was also created with community members to inform future community engagement in the research. We reflect upon our process and discuss the strengths, challenges and recommendations of incorporating culturally relevant practices and sharing knowledge within and outside of the community group. This work contributes to literature enhancing relevant and respectful methodological- and relational-research practices with Indigenous Peoples and communities. 相似文献

Adolescent-era predictors of adult romantic life satisfaction were examined in a multimethod, prospective, longitudinal study of 165 adolescents followed from ages 13 to 30. Progress in key developmental tasks, including establishing positive expectations and capacity for assertiveness with peers at age 13, social competence at ages 15 and 16, and ability to form and maintain strong close friendships at ages 16–18, predicted romantic life satisfaction at ages 27–30. In contrast, several qualities linked to romantic experience during adolescence (i.e., sexual and dating experience, physical attractiveness) were unrelated to future satisfaction. Results suggest a central role of competence in nonromantic friendships as preparation for successful management of the future demands of adult romantic life. 相似文献

This article shares results of a survey of North American academic librarians supporting campus entrepreneurship to identify the job responsibilities and tasks, skills and experience they employ, and the impact of campus context on engagement with this community. A contextual approach draws on a variety of sources to identify competencies which were adapted and then ranked. Research services and outreach; market and industry research; innovation and problem solving are identified as key competencies. Few twentieth century scientists have generated as much interest as Albert Einstein and Marie Currie. Their lives are centrally
depicted in numerous children’s biographies of famous scientists. Yet their stories reflect interesting paradoxes and tacit
sets of unexplored sociocultural assumptions about gender in science education and the larger society. Trevor Owens’ analysis
of common Einstein and Currie biographies for children provides a context for us to consider a deeper reading of these scientists’

Conscientiousness is often found to predict academic outcomes, but is defined differently by different models of personality. High school students (N = 291) completed a large number of Conscientiousness items from different models and the Big Five Inventory (BFI). Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis of the items uncovered eight facets: Industriousness, Perfectionism, Tidiness, Procrastination Refrainment, Control, Cautiousness, Task Planning, and Perseverance. Correlations between these facets and the BFI revealed that all facets related strongly to Conscientiousness. Criterion-related validity was demonstrated by relationships between facets and academic outcomes such as grade-point-average, disciplinary infractions, and attainment of academic honors. Compared to BFI Conscientiousness, Industriousness and Perfectionism showed significantly stronger prediction of absenteeism and cognitive test scores, respectively. Results are discussed in terms of the usefulness of facet scores, the interpretation of personality scores for selection, and the development of intervention programs. 相似文献

The article reports the findings of a study conducted to inform a teacher preparation program of the extent to which they
were providing students with experiences consistent with the program goals. The Constructivist Learning Environment Survey
(CLES) was administered three times to participants in a 1-year program for graduate students seeking licensure in mathematics
and science. These data were compared to program course syllabi and participant reflections to generate an account of institutional practice. From this account, observations about the program and a subsequent hypothetical learning trajectory were generated. It is
recommended that the program find additional ways to explicitly integrate constructivist learning environment components into
coursework and field experiences, specifically in the area of Critical Voice. Furthermore, the program should continue to

Sport celebrates differences in competitors that lead to the often razor-thin margins between victory and defeat. The source of this variation is the interaction between the environment in which the athletes develop and compete and their genetic make-up. However, a darker side of sports may also be genetically influenced: some anti-doping tests are affected by the athlete's genotype. Genetic variation is an issue that anti-doping authorities must address as more is learned about the interaction between genotype and the responses to prohibited practices. To differentiate between naturally occurring deviations in indirect blood and urine markers from those potentially caused by doping, the "biological-passport" program uses intra-individual variability rather than population values to establish an athlete's expected physiological range. The next step in "personalized" doping control may be the inclusion of genetic data, both for the purposes of documenting an athlete's responses to doping agents and doping-control assays as well facilitating athlete and sample identification. Such applications could benefit "clean" athletes but will come at the expense of risks to privacy. This article reviews the instances where genetics has intersected with doping control, and briefly discusses the potential role, and ethical implications, of genotyping in the struggle to eliminate illicit ergogenic practices. 相似文献
