Usually sickle cell traits are asymptomatic but co-existence of various factrors may alter the clinical as well as biochemical levels. In India sickle cell traits are neglected condition. Here we are presenting the alpha deletion in association with low serum iron and increased HbF level with Xmn-1 carriers in sickle cell traits. Sickle traits with alpha deletions had significantly low level of serum iron (P-value <0.05) with low level of reticulocytes and red cell indices while Xmn-1 polymorphism associated with increased HbF level. Study concludes low serum iron associated with alpha deletions and high level of HbF associated with Xmn-1 polymorphism in sickle cell traits. 相似文献

This article examines the negotiation of organizational tensions by purpose-driven consultancies, for-profit firms also motivated by social change agendas in their implementation of organizational development for corporate clients. Using two case studies – APCom training ethical corporate leaders, and GreenD communicating environmental sustainability programs – we trace how such consultancies negotiate these tensions, and how their underlying purpose might accordingly transform. Our multi-case study suggests two broad tensions related to purpose and impact that are experienced in context-specific ways by the consultancies. Although members sought to frame these tensions in positive ways, as complementary dialectics or contradicting the dominant capitalist system, they were also at risk of devolving into more paradoxical contradictions and even debilitating double binds, without sustained discussion to ‘repurpose’ the firms. We close by discussing theoretical and practical implications for purpose-driven consultancies, given that their pursuit of social change is often at odds with the status quo. 相似文献

Teachers’ engagement in professional learning is vital to the profession’s sustainability. Their professional learning is influenced by the demands of balancing work, family, and the strain of balancing the two. This challenge is addressed through the notion resilience, operationalized as career adaptability. In a sample of teachers (N = 193), the present research explored the relations between career adaptability, family-to-work conflict (time-based and strain-based), and engagement in professional learning. Structural equation modelling revealed that time-based conflict mediated the relation between career adaptability and strain-based conflict. Strain-based conflict, in turn, negatively predicted engagement with professional development studies. It is recommended that strategies for teachers’ professional learning are inclusive of contextual factors, such as family-to-work conflict, and focused on enhancing their career adaptability. 相似文献

The current spate of activities in Electronic Commerce draws upon many web-based technologies. Inspite of the large amount of literature being put out on Electronic Commerce, there is no coherent model or theory bearing on issues of the management of Web technologies. This paper makes a beginning in this direction by outlining a conceptual framework for management of Web technologies. The existing literature in the Mangement of Information Technology reveals four major themes: management of investment; management of change; management of quality; and management of technology organization. The present study included three groups: (A) age and gender matched control (n=24) with no previous signs of M. tuberculosis
complex (MTBC) infection, (B) patients (n=28) diagnosed with gastro-intestinal TB (GITB), (C) patients (n=50) with clinical
and histo-pathological signs of GITB, but were culture and AFB negative. Real time assay performed using fluorescence resonance
energy transfer hybridization probes showed a positivity index of 36 % in group C, i.e. 18 were found reactive from the total
50 cases studied. In addition, immune characterization of these 18 cases showed depleted CD4+ count and increased levels of IFN-γ and TNF-α cytokines. No positive case was found in group A, while in group B, out of
total 28 cases studied 27 were found positive. A combinatorial diagnostic approach for rapid detection and characterization
of GITB might provide specific therapeutic strategies for prevention and treatment of the infection in future. 相似文献

This article describes the complex media environment of urban Zambia based on qualitative interviews with 42 active ICT and social media users in Lusaka. After a contextual discussion of media censorship and Internet freedom, the article draws upon interview data to delineate four circumvention practices: (1) platform jumping; (2) anonymity; (3) self-censorship; and (4) negotiation of legal challenges. Rather than approach circumvention as a set of techniques disseminated from the information capitals of the world to those in the “global south,” this study approaches it as a set of cultural practices that emerges within particular sociohistorical conditions and platforms of communication. 相似文献

Homocysteine (Hcy) is a non-protein forming amino-acid, whose metabolism is at the intersection of two metabolic pathways:
remethylation and transsulfuration which are dependent on the vitamins folic acid, B12 and B6, and the enzymes methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase and cystathionine-β-synthetase. A deficiency of any of these vitamins
or enzymes results in hyperhomocysteinemia. This causes oxidative and other damage to blood vessels, thus affecting various
organ systems of the body. As part of our ongoing research on cardiovascular risk factors, we have studied the Hcy levels
in the plasma of normal controls and those suffering from vascular diseases. It was observed that Hcy is significantly higher
in patients of vascular diseases (21.59±1.28 μmol/L, mean±SEM), as compared to normal controls (11.33±0.18 μmol/L). This significance,
was more pronounced in cases of venous thrombosis (26.77±2.43 μmol/L) as opposed to cases of arterial block (17.27±0.84 μmol/L).
This signifies that Hcy estimation would be beneficial in obtaining a differential diagnosis in addition to being a modifiable

A 1997 statewide survey of Michigan teachers, administrators, and parents about assessment practices revealed that all 3 groups held similar views about what constitutes appropriate assessment in the early years, and they put little faith in test scores. This study reports on follow-up interviews aimed at determining the types, frequency, and utility of assessment techniques used by classroom teachers. Specifically, this study focused on the types of assessment techniques used by a sample of elementary teachers, including how often they use paper-and-pencil tests, how often they write observation notes and what they do with the notes, whether they use children's portfolios as assessment, and whether their teaching is influenced by mandated tests. Study findings revealed that paper and pencil tests were regularly used by teachers in grades 3 and 4 (92%), and rarely or occasionally used by the teachers below that level (16% rarely and 20% occasionally). Seventy-three percent of the early level teachers and 76% of the teachers in grade 3 and 4 used observation for summative rather than formative analysis. Teachers in both groups used checklists frequently, primarily for summative purposes. Portfolios, like other assessment tools, are used primarily for summative rather than formative purposes. 相似文献
