This article presents a model featuring two types of emotion regulation—reactive and deliberate—and discusses the developmental trajectory of both types. We argue that the later-developing capacity for deliberate control builds on and coevolves with earlier-developing reactive control. Findings from the field of developmental neuroscience are mapped onto this model. The focus is on specific neural "hubs," such as the anterior cingulate cortex and the orbitofrontal cortex, which serve as epicenters for the coupling of cortical and subcortical processes. We propose that an increasing coordination between brain regions during emotional situations subserves more effective and efficient regulation with development. This framework can be used to explain different developmental pathways of regulatory styles that can, for example, lead to aggressive versus anxious modes of emotion regulation. The implications of this framework can help guide educational policy by supporting prevention and intervention strategies for children exhibiting difficulties with emotion regulation.  相似文献

This article is a collaboration involving a professor and three graduate students. Together, they explore lifescaping action research pedagogy guided by the participatory inquiry process. Since the lesson taught is not the lesson learned, the first author presents a perspective about teaching PIP followed by the graduate students’ collective responses enacting what they learned in three different school settings.  相似文献

‘Student experience’ has become a popular term with higher education managers but is theoretically under‐developed. This paper conceptualises student experience as a construction from memory and advances previous discussion within the higher education sector by distinguishing between recalled academic and social experience. The results of a predominantly quantitative survey of 883 alumni indicated that recalled academic experience had greater effect on subsequent loyalty attitudes and behaviours than recalled social experience. Cluster analyses indicated that alumni having strong ties with their university were more likely over time to identify with the recalled academic experience of their university, while those with weak ties were more likely to identify with recalled social experiences. Implications for development of alumni associations are made based on targeting groups with different levels of ties with the university.  相似文献

The effect of hyperoxic gas supplementation on the recovery time of oxygen saturation levels (S(a)O(2)), and its effect on perceptual recovery were assessed. Seven national-level kayak athletes completed two laboratory-based ergometer sessions of 6 × 3-min maximal aerobic intervals, with 2 min recovery between repetitions. During each recovery period, athletes either inhaled a hyperoxic gas (99.5 ± 0.2 % F(I)O(2)) or were given no external supplementation (control). Mean power output, stroke rate, heart rate, and ratings of perceived exertion were collected during each interval repetition, and the intensity was matched between trials. During each 2-min recovery period, post-exercise haemoglobin saturation levels were measured via pulse oximetry (S(p)O(2)), and the time taken for the S(p)O(2) to return to pre-exercise values was recorded. Subsequently, a rating of perceived recovery quality was collected. There were no differences in the levels of post-exercise de-saturation between the hyperoxic and control trials (P < 0.05), although the recovery time of S(p)O(2) was significantly faster in the hyperoxic trial (P < 0.05). There was no influence of oxygen supplementation on the athletes' perception of recovery quality. Hyperoxic gas supplementation during the recovery periods between high-intensity intervals substantially improves the recovery time of S(p)O(2) with no likely influence on recovery perception.  相似文献

Building on research proposing reciprocal journalism as a concept underlying participatory practices and norms in journalism, this study examines how reciprocity might meaningfully be measured in a journalistic context. Using a survey of US journalists, this study adapts measures of reciprocal attitudes and behaviors to journalistic practices. It also develops measures of direct, indirect, and sustained reciprocity as applied to journalism, and explores the relationship between each of these reciprocal forms and one type of participatory behavior: interacting with audiences online. The results indicate that some measurements of positive reciprocity can be meaningfully translated to a journalistic environment and may help to predict forms of audience interaction. For future research, the findings point to the potential for forms of reciprocity to be explored as antecedents for other journalistic norms and practices.  相似文献
