Genome-wide association studies have discovered multiple single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with the risk of common diseases. The objective of this study was to demonstrate the replication of previously published SNPs that showed statistical significance for breast cancer in the Malaysian population. In this case–control study, 80 subjects for each group were recruited from various hospitals in Malaysia. A total of 768 SNPs were genotyped and analyzed to distinguish risk and protective alleles. A total of three SNPs were found to be associated with increased risk of breast cancer while six SNPs showed protective effect. All nine were statistically significant SNPs (p ≤ 0.01), five SNPs from previous studies were successfully replicated in our study. Significant modifiable (diet) and non-modifiable (family history of breast cancer in first degree relative) risk factors were also observed. We identified nine SNPs from this study to be either conferring susceptibility or protection to breast cancer which may serve as potential markers in risk prediction.

To create and deliver effective training, one must first understand how training differs from traditional education, how adults learn (andragogy) in different ways than do children, and how using instructional design can yield effective, low cost information literacy programs. A wealth of on-line, open source resources is available on how to learn more about and implement training, andragogical teaching principles, and instructional design. The present work was undertaken to study interrelation of Fibrinogen, Lp(a) and LVMI in Type II diabetes patients with or
without nephropathy. 100 Type II Diabetic patients attending OPD/IPD of DMC&H, Ludhiana were included. They were divided in
two groups. Group I: 50 patients without microalbuminuria (MAU). Group II: 50 patients with MAU. Fibrinogen (Clauss method),
Lp(a) and MAU were estimated on Multichannel Autoanalyzer Hitachi-911 (Roche). LVMI was estimated by echocardiography using
formula of Devereux and Reicheck. Type II diabetes patients with MAU had significantly raised levels of Fibrinogen, Lp(a),
and LVMI as compared to normoalbuminuric diabetics (P < 0.01). Group II patients had positive correlation between Lp(a) and LVMI but no relation between Fibrinogen and LVMI. MAU,
marker of microangiopathy, is associated with higher Fibrinogen and Lp(a) levels. This becomes basis of increase cardiovascular

Coronary Artery Disease is the major cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Traditional risk factors account for only
half of the morbidity and mortality from coronary artery disease. There is substantial evidence that oxidative stress plays
the major role in the atherosclerotic process. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the level of lipid peroxidation
(by measuring malondialdehyde) and antioxidant enzymes (ceruloplasmin, glutathione, superoxide dismutase) in coronary artery
disease. Serum malondialdehyde levels and serum ceruloplasmin levels were significantly raised in all the subgroups of study
group as compared to control group (p<0.001). Whole blood glutathione levels and hemolysate superoxide dismutase activity
was significantly decreased in all the subgroups of study group as compared to control group (p<0.001). Above results suggests
that the patients of coronary artery disease show increased oxidative stress and decreased levels of antioxidant enzymes.
So it is recommended that the management protocol for coronary artery disease patients should include antioxidant supplementation
along with simultaneous lowering of lipid peroxidation. 相似文献

Background:?Students’ motivation is known to influence academic outcomes. However, there is a paucity of research showing the relative influences of motivational factors on short-term and long-term outcomes. Purpose:?The study investigates the relative influences of motivational factors – mastery goal orientation, value of schooling, and academic self-concepts (perceived competence in and affect to schoolwork) on four outcomes – rule acceptance, identity, general self-efficacy and achievement. Sample:?Students in grades 3 to 6 from six primary schools in the Sydney were surveyed (N = 979). The ages of the participants varied from 8 to 13 years (mean = 9.78). Design and methods:?Students completed a questionnaire and literacy and numeracy achievement tests. Structural equation modelling was used to examine the paths from four predictors to four outcomes. Results:?Whereas all four predictors were positively associated with all four outcomes, students’ mastery goal had stronger positive influences on self-efficacy and identity. Value, perceived competence and affect were found to influence outcomes in different ways – positive influences were found for value on achievement, rule-acceptance, and identity; for perceived competence on achievement and efficacy; and for affect on rule-acceptance and identity. Conclusion:?Mastery goal had stronger influences on long-term outcomes while other predictors are stronger for short-term outcomes. Researchers have reported persuasive evidence that students?? perceptions of their classroom learning environment account for significant variance in cognitive and affective outcomes (e.g. intrinsic motivation, self-concept, liking for particular subjects and students?? intention to drop out). The study reported in this paper investigated the relationship between students?? perceptions of classroom learning environment and motivational achievement goal orientations towards biology and physics, as well as the influence of gender. Participants (N?=?1538) were high school science students from the north-eastern region of Thailand. Our results suggest that motivational goals are linked to differences in students?? perceptions of learning environment and levels of biology and physics classroom anxiety. We found that females adopted significantly higher levels of mastery and performance approach goals towards biology, while males adopted significantly higher levels of mastery and performance approach goals towards physics. Males adopted significantly higher levels of performance avoidance goals towards both biology and physics. Positive associations emerged between gender and the adoption of specific performance goals, perceived degree of competition in biology and physics classrooms, and levels of biology and physics classroom anxiety. These results suggest that motivational goal orientations and perceptions of learning environment are gender-dependent and domain-specific for the two science content areas. 相似文献

Forty patients suffering from mild to moderate degree of hypertension were put on felodipine. Their lipid profile was analysed
before the start of their therapy and consecutively at two and four months after starting felodipine. There was a statistically
significant fall in the levels of serum cholesterol, serum triglycerides and serum total lipids; though no appreciable variation
was observed in HDL and LDL cholesterol levels. At baseline there were a few patients who had higher than the normal range
of the serum lipid profile. Analysis of these patients showed a highly significant fall in the levels of serum cholesterol,
serum triglycerides, serum LDL-cholesterol and serum total lipids i.e. felodipine modified the lipid profiles of hypertensive

Big Data Analytics (BDA) is increasingly becoming a trending practice that generates an enormous amount of data and provides a new opportunity that is helpful in relevant decision-making. The developments in Big Data Analytics provide a new paradigm and solutions for big data sources, storage, and advanced analytics. The BDA provide a nuanced view of big data development, and insights on how it can truly create value for firm and customer. This article presents a comprehensive, well-informed examination, and realistic analysis of deploying big data analytics successfully in companies. It provides an overview of the architecture of BDA including six components, namely: (i) data generation, (ii) data acquisition, (iii) data storage, (iv) advanced data analytics, (v) data visualization, and (vi) decision-making for value-creation. In this paper, seven V's characteristics of BDA namely Volume, Velocity, Variety, Valence, Veracity, Variability, and Value are explored. The various big data analytics tools, techniques and technologies have been described. Furthermore, it presents a methodical analysis for the usage of Big Data Analytics in various applications such as agriculture, healthcare, cyber security, and smart city. This paper also highlights the previous research, challenges, current status, and future directions of big data analytics for various application platforms. This overview highlights three issues, namely (i) concepts, characteristics and processing paradigms of Big Data Analytics; (ii) the state-of-the-art framework for decision-making in BDA for companies to insight value-creation; and (iii) the current challenges of Big Data Analytics as well as possible future directions. 相似文献
